My family and I visited Sai Gai for lunch today. What it isn’t: super slick phony or pretentious. It is not over priced. It is not fancy. It IS: very good food. Reasonably priced. Kind and welcoming and homey. Going back.
With such a kind staff, I was disappointed to find each dish lacking any flavor or appeal of any kind. The preparation was sloppy at each level, from the soggy rice in the sushi to the poorly seasoned hibachi. With so much food, I left full but disparagingly unfulfilled.
Sai Gai Steak House is still the top notch restaurant it has always been!
Something has changed. I don’t know when it happened, but the SaiGai is not what it use to be. After moving back to Norfolk recently, my husband and I walked in to the Sai Gai restaurant. We stood there a while, no one greeted us. Only one couple was in there eating and the restaurant reeked. The bad smell was so bad that I had to turn around and walk out. Back in the day, the Sai Gai was a fantastic place for Chinese cuisine – No more.
Best sushi!. This place has amazing reasonably priced sushi of a variety of flavors…Boston and Philly rolls for the win with an appetizer of Goza!
My family loves Sai Gai. Sai Gai is a place that everyone in my family can eat and get something fantastic. Whether it’ sushi, hibachi or noodle soup. I love it! I always get Shrimp Tempura Udon and fried rice. They have a white sauce that is amazing as well. They are a tad expensive for sushi, but my fiance always likes it!
Reasonable Price, Good Food, Disorganized Service. We were seated right away. Ordered our drinks three times before getting them. Our food came and we had to ask for silverware. Our silverware was brought without napkins, so we had to ask for napkins. I overheard other tables complaining about getting charged incorrectly or getting the wrong food. Our food and bill were correct, however. Also, our waiter was very friendly and the food was good. Price seemed very reasonable for a japanese steakhouse/sushi bar.
