Used to be good. I went prior to the renovation frequently. They would even give me chef special roll for no extra charge(along with what I ordered), prompt service, good taste. Here comes renovation: not good at all, slow service, and pricier entrees. They never asked if I wanted a refil on my drink even though it was empty and I have recieved my food. Now I rarely, if ever, go here.
Meh. If you’re in it for the nice plate presentation, Sakura is amazing. If you in it for tasty sushi, Sakura is meh. For the places near campus it’s not bad – definitely better than Kobe on Hampton. But it’s not special. Like I said thought, the presentation is beautiful. It’s little work of art on a plate. I’ve been a couple times and am not violently opposed to going again, but it’s not my first choice.
Do I smell bad fish or service?. So I’ve been here at least 3 times, and I’ve been to MANY sushi bars. This One Is the Worst sushi bar I’ve EVER BEEN TOO!!!! Ok so the first time I went it was…meh. Nothing to brag or complain about. The second time it was a saturday night and completely empty inside. The waitress was obviously new but she had no clue. I ordered 2 philly roles and 1 roll they called a yum yum roll. I waited almost 30 mins for the girl to bring me the opposite of what I ordered. I told her the mistake and she told me that if I wanted to keep it I could and I asked her if I was going to have to pay for the mistake, she told me no. Only 5 mins later after I had started eating she told me I was going to have to pay for her mistake. (the yum yum roll was $9 each) I tried to refuse but her manager came and took my plate from me. I waited for another 20 mins (mind you again we are the only table) to get my correct order. At this point I just asked them to wrap it up to go and give us our check. When I got the check the order was still incorrect but this time it was for 2 of each roll I ordered. Then the manager caught an attitude with me and refused to discount anything.the last time I went I order 2 philly rolls to go. When I got them home I could smell the fish…it was practically rotten. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN! Plus it is way to expense to be a college restaurant.
My Favorite Sushi Place. There are very few restaurants I crave and this place is pretty much the only one. I’ve sampled sushi all over VA Beach and Norfolk and I keep traveling to this Sakura in Norfolk. The ingredients are the freshest. The ginger salad is the best; they have a secret house recipe that no one can duplicate. They don’t over batter the fried sushi. I love this place and used to go almost weekly until I moved to VA Beach. It’s a little pricey but I pay because I do love it. Check it out 🙂
Worst sushi ever, asked for two simple rolls spicey tuna and a philly roll with smoked salmon. The spicey tuna had no spice and it came with crutch
I can cook better…. I sampled this place several times because while on campus I often had a craving for Japanese food. I kept going thinking it would be better, and everybody likes it so much, so I figured it would be decent. Service is mediocre; the servers barely talk to you and seem pretty inexperienced.I ordered from both the kitchen and the sushi bar on several occasions. The sushi is mediocre, and you can’t really go wrong with sashimi unless you use fish that isn’t fresh or your knife skills are extremely poor. What made me really irritated though is that the food from the kitchen was bland and uninspiring. Ultimately, it wasn’t even very Japanese–the food tastes nothing like it’s supposed to. The sauce for the agedashi tofu was too thick and the yakisoba looked more like lo mein.I used to work for a great Japanese (and Japanese-owned) restaurant so I might be biased, but it’s just not as great as everybody says. I wouldn’t avoid the place, but if you’re looking for something spectacular, go elsewhere.
