This is a very surprising hole-in-the-wall place that I’m glad came up in a Yelp search as I was touring the area. I really loved that the place was unpretentious and looked like it was family-run. The service was good and the food is all laid out in trays so you can see what you’ll be getting when you order. The Caribbean food here is not fancy but it’s good and prices are quite reasonable for the portion size. Only thing you have to be careful about is the way they cut the bone-in chicken can lead to bone fragments in the food, so it may not be for everyone.
Had the spicy jerk with white rice & macnchz. omg so good !! i think i liked them equally & i really am a picky eater. loved it all & the portion was pretty huge for $10.
Do not eat here i repeat do not eat from here food is HORRIBLE!!! Rude staff will not give money back if dissatisfied. Food was dry and overcooked and policy they claim they have is not posted anywhere! They claim at no restaurant can you get a refund if you are not satisfied…..a bold face lie!!! And yall know i love all things caribbean but this was the worst caribbean food ever!! They are located in hampton on executive dr!
Unique place with great food. This place is a great alternative to all the run-of-the-mill fried chicken places in the area. The food is inexpensive, of good quality, and served quickly. I’ve been here several times and tried a variety of things but my favorite is the jerk chicken with red beans and rice. The mac and cheese is very good, but I get plantains when they are available. The green beans are good too and don’t seem to be out of a can. If the jerk chicken isn’t spicy enough for you, try dabbing on a little of Matouk’s hot sauce found in a jar on the counter by the register. It’s made fresh and can vary from visit to visit, but it’s generally pretty darn hot. When I get an order to go, I put about a 1/2 teaspoon on the rice and mix it in. It’s usually enough to make me reach for a tissue. The staff is friendly and the shop is clean with a casual atmosphere. There are also some vegetarian items on the menu now. This place offers a cuisine unlike anything else I’ve found on the Peninsula, so check it out if you’re feeling a little adventurous.
