The new Ynot at Landstown is this local company’s latest addition to their portfolio of Italian-American themed restaurants. Having been there twice now, I can say they have the service piece down. The other day I walked in about 20 minutes before opening time, not exactly aware that the time of day was just before usual lunchtime. The staff cheerfully let me occupy a table until opening, and they also served me a soft drink for the wait. At opening time, I ordered the chicken cannelloni: pasta sheets rolled into tubes around ground chicken, sauced and cheesed, and baked off. The sauce was delicious. It had a good acid balance with just about perfect salinity. The dish was of good enough quality to warrant the $11 price tag. A salad of good greens added value, as it was more than a typical iceberg-throwaway. The dressing came in a plastic container on the side, which was not exactly consistent with the otherwise non-cafeteria experience. Besides, who likes a salad that is gloppy here, and dry there? Just toss the salad and serve it…so much nicer that way. It was served with real Italian bread. I felt very satisfied at meal’s end. My entree and drink was $15.50 before tip. On my way out, I perused the other offerings. I made a note to remember that they serve slices of pizza for take out at fair prices. They also have gelato to go, and Italian cookies as well. There are maybe a half dozen Ynot restaurants in the Hampton Roads area by now. They got all the polish they need at this point in my judgment-all they’d need is a good investor and they’ve got a national chain in the making.
