Very good sides to go with good southeast bbq. Nice, very casual atmosphere. We enjoyed it a lot. Glad to eat here again. Quite reasonable when four split two meals. We had plenty.
Barbecue sandwich was good but nothing special; lots of sauce covers up the pork flavor. Overly salty fries changed from wedges to more like McD or BK – preferred the former. Portions of fried okra were generous but so salty, could only eat half. Felt ill for three hours afterwards from the sodium overdose.
Go to the west broad street location instead. At this location, the brisket was rubbery and had no taste other than smoke. They also do not offer their chicken or pork barbecue without sauce.
Physical layout is a nightmare. People walking in, the line for the soda machine & the pre-existing line to order/receive food all run together. Absurd. How else do I say this… Customer service is non-existent to the point of contempt. My personal examples: (1) ordered sandwich combo, received it with LITERALLY eight french fries on plate. Took up to counter, person back there did not care. Did not attempt to make it right. (2) Found long hair in sandwich on another visit. Nobody apologized. They just slapped another sandwich in a basket & pushed it at me. (3) Went in on a weekend late afternoon with parents. Place was not overwhelmingly busy at all. Ordered three bbq sandwich combos. 29 minutes later, no food yet. Father was pissed off so he demanded money back. Staff completely unapologetic once again. Now the food… BBQ is fine. Meat has a great flavor. Ribs are done right. The sides are an afterthought here, too. I have no idea why people think this is the best BBQ in town. In summary: arrogant staff, abyssmal customer service, poor value, but tasty BBQ & ribs. If you can put up with all that, go for it. I will never go to the Boulevard location ever again.
The inside is absurdly small and the line at the door make entering and exiting a deal all in itself, and the food was ok at best.I don’t know how they could get away with saying Richmond’s best BBQ unless they are the only BBQ in Richmond. I ordered a large brisket double slaw no sauce. The meat was sliced thick and it was kinda tough. The flavor however was a smoked brisket heaven. This meat was definitely in a smoker just not long enough to get get tender. Sad!!!The slaw was good too. However it does not make my top 10!www.thepettransporterguy.comMy top 5 BBQ joints in the US as of 8/9/15:This list is bound to change and may be just the luck of the day I was there. However #’s 1, 2, and 3 I have been to more then once #’s 4 and 5 I have only been to once.5)Up in smoke BBQ Hillsboro TX4) Stonewalls any of the family owned franchise. GA and Miss3) Gio. Ok barbecue- just ok. Nothing to rave about. Obviously they are living off the fact they beat Bobby Flay in barbecue- against real barbecue masters they would be judged as mediocre at best.Service SUCKS
Last time we went there the bbq was awful. The cole slaw way too tangy. We made our comments and they acted like they didn’t care. Not going back for a long while.
