Major fail. Based on these reviews we decided to give City Dogs a try. Restaurant was almost empty on a Sunday afternoon so we received attention promptly. I ordered the Chili Cheese, my husband the Cincinati Chili, which I definitely Do Not Like . . . I warned him that Cincinati chili is sweet not spicy and has cinnamon in it but he ordered it anyway. We ordered soft drinks and a basket of fries to share.Waitress returns to deliver food and asks which of us ordered the Cincinati dog. My husband answers and she swapped our plates. I took a moment to add ketchup to our potatoes, with the result that my husband had already eaten half his hot dog before I tried mine only to discover he was eating my Chili Cheese and I was stuck with his Cincinati yuck. Our waitress responded with an apology and when we got nothing further, we swapped plates and I are the last two bites of the Chili Cheese hot dog my husband hadn’t eaten yet. Hey, City Dogs, your waitress’s job is to deliver what we ordered, where was my fresh sandwich and/or the comp on our bill? The hot dogs themselves were completely ordinary, and the home cut fries were underdone, limp and greasy. And the bill for this mess was over $15. Sorry, that’s not cheap eats to me, especially when a waitress major fails and my husband ends up eating most of my food and I walk out hungry. She didn’t get a tip, we won’t be back and if you really want a hot dog try Sonics.

Stumbled Across a Diamond in the Ruff. My Boyfriend and I frequent this place constantly. They have two locations that are equally as good when it comes to quality and consistency. The main street location is much bigger while the Shockoe Slip location is small but the staff and atmosphere at both of them gives you a laid back, city hot spot where everyone is welcomed. We have tried just about all the dogs between the two of us my favorite being the Miami Dog with bacon added and My boyfriend loves the classic Chilli-Cheese but the menu options are well rounded with gourmet hotdogs and burgers with fresh/ handmade toppings; and as if there prices aren’t already low, they have special for every day of the week, which is great when you and a few friends want to have a good time without breaking the bank. You could also utilize the full bar/tap and have a night out and watch the game on one of the big screens well placed throughout the restaurant. The only downfalls this place has are the sides ; a big disappointment on your table after tasting the entrees, but you wont need them with hotdogs like this. And although they have occasionally burn the corn dog nuggets;when done right, they will be the best ones you have tasted. If you’re a college student on budget or just love good food, you should definitely stop by and check they out.

City Dog offers great specials in a very cool neighborhood. I ordered the barbecue dog on accident. I did not regret it and have been back since! The waiter even threw in a dog for the confusion. Great eats!

Had the Chicago dog. Delicious all beef dog. The casing had that perfect al dente snap. Condiments were fresh snd on point. Relish was neon green. Fries seemed hand cut from fresh not frozen potatoes. Served hot and properly seasoned. This were a nice accompaniment. Shockie Diner decor. Wait staff was friendly, attentive.

Great late night food. The hot dogs as standalone hot dogs are average at best but the special creations they make are great… can’t get better after some drinks

I just like it.. I have been here several times, always when I’m by myself, hungry, and don’t feel like fast food or a stuffy place. Servers are always pleasant, my food takes the appropriate amount of time to make, and I always enjoy it. I don’t go often, but it is my go to restaurant when I need food that tastes good and doesn’t come with any b.s. stuffiness.
