THE LADY AT THE COUNTER JUST TRIED TO STEAL MY MONEY. I HAD A LIVING SOCIAL VOUCHER FOR $20 I ORDER 19.64 WORTH OF FOOD. SHE TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO PAY $4.08 I RELUCTANLY GAVE HER THE MONEY. SHE TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY TAX AND I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE PRICING OF MY FOOD. SHE WASNT HEARING IT? SO I TOLD HER TO GIVE ME A RECIEPT. SHE PRINTED 2 TICKETS ONE WITH TAX INCLUDED THAT SAID $21.64 AND A SEPARATE ONE FOR $4.08 SHE KEPT TRYING TO LIE ABOUT THE TAX UNTIL SHE REALIZE THAT I CAUGHT HER IN A LIE. BUT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO NEED TO PRINT A SEPARATE TICKET. AFTER I KEPT SHOWING HER HOW IT MADE NO SINCE, THEN SHE GAVE ME MY MONEY BACK. I TOLD HER I DID OWE TAX BUT ONLY $1.00 AND SOME CHANGE THAT SHE REFUSED BECAUSE SHE WAS SO ANGRY AFTER I CAUGHT HER IN A LIE. ONCE I PROVED THAT SHE JUST MADE UP #S TO STEAL EXTRA MONEY. THEN SHE STARTED LIEING AND SAYING THE VOUCHER SAYS SAYS THE BUYER MUST PAY GRATUDITY. WHICH WAS A FLAT OUT LIE!! THAT CONFIRMED WHAT I ALREADY KNEW!! PLUS SHE WAS ACTING FUNNY WHEN I FIRST SHOWED HER THE VOUCHER.THAT WAS A FLAT OUT LIE!!! ITS FUNNY BECAUSE I WAS ABOUT TO ORDER A SIDE OF MAC & CHEESE FOR $4. THE FOOD WAS BLAND AND I WOULD NEVER GO BACK I WILL STICK TO CARENAS. I TRIED IT BECAUSE OF LIVING SOCIAL BUT IF THEY IMPROVED THEIE SERVICE AND FOOD QUALITY THEY WOULDNT NEED LIVING SOCIAL. I SHOULD HAVE FOLLOW MY FIRST MIND THE FOOD WASNT GOOD 2 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL ISNT TODAY. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER FOOD IS BELOW AVERAGE AND NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO STEAL MONEY BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF BUSINESS. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!
Worth it!. The food here is great. I really loved the jerk chicken. The meat comes off the bone so easily and the seasoning on it is excellent. The sides are quite delicious as well. The portions are huge and will easily provide for the next day. It’s a family run place and is more take out than dine in. But definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. I look forward to coming back and trying oxtail and the beef patties.
Jerkin’ it. I’ve been wanting to come here for a while, but they are usually closed around the times that I’m looking for food. Lunch seems to be the best time to come here; with its small, quiet, ambiance with little decoration outside of a couple Bob Marley posters, awards, and a map of Jamaica. This was actually the first time that I’ve had authentic Jamaican food, with most of my experiences coming from the trials and errors with jerk seasoning in my kitchen. I ordered the dark jerk chicken (obviously), which came with a side of rice-beans, and plantains that confused the hell out of me. Today would become one of many firsts. For a reasonable price they give you enough food to fill you up for the rest of the evening, so I’m planning on coming back her soon with some company.
Amazing little wonder.. This place has the most authentic Jamaican food you can find in Richmond! The owner was a true sweetheart and the jerk chicken was to die for. Would go back again and again.
Great food!!! I got what I was looking for in a jerk restaurant. Excellent jerk flavor on the meat, traditional fried plantains, and some fresh veggies!! What more could you want? Oh, it was under $10.
Eh…. I went here with several of my co-workers, and none of us were impressed with the food. The Jamaican Beef Patty was the only item that was really good. The slaw, roll, and jerk pork were not very good. We were all disappointed with our food. The man who took our order was not very nice or helpful with answering our questions. It was nice to see the food prep area, but the atmosphere was outdated and not a place you would sit down in. We took our food to go.
Special. The GOOD: The food is fresh, colorful, and perfectly flavored. These folks know how to man a grill. For newcomers, the best place to start is definitely the combo Jerk Kebab and the Boonoonoonous (a fruity smoothie). Offers takeout. Reasonably easy parking on the side streets off broad. The BAD: Not the friendliest folks behind the counter. A bit of a soup-nazi vibe, but personally, I actually like that 🙂 Closes weirdly early (7pm I think?). Takes 20-30 minutes to make your food, so you may want to call ahead.VERDICT: One of Richmond’s most unique menus. Fantastic food. If you’ve ever been to a bad Jamaican restaurant (I have… too many), then you’ll appreciate the Jerk Pit all the more.
