Good beginner dim sum. While most of the women working the steam carts were polite & even jovial, the men working there are beyond rude. I would go again, but will look for another dim sum option first.
WARNING! HORRIBLE!. I have a wedding booked for next year with this restaurant and I am extremely upset and angry with how I am treated. For those who may possibly be looking for a venue to have your reception, look elsewhere. I had no choice due to family request, but if I wasn’t forced to go with this place I wouldn’t! The only things that this place has going for it is that it’s good is decent compared to other Chinese restaurants in the NOVA area. It also looks bit better than other Chinese restaurants. It’s service is EXTREMELY HORRIBLE! I had been yelled at by a lady there for her mistake when I had asked to come in to survey the restaurant with my decorators. She had told me that there wasn’t a wedding going on when there was. When I got there, I didn’t want to enter because it was rude! I would not want to have random people coming to my wedding! When booking with this restaurant, it is important to keep in mind that you must have 450 guests in order to book the whole place. They still use the restaurant for their regular customers if you have less than that number. Well, I am planning to have that number, meaning I will be paying about $20,000 to book the whole restaurant. Even though I am shelling out all that money, they are still greedy! They will not let me set up until 4:00pm the day of, when my reception starts at 6:00pm! Two hours is not enough time! When I asked the manager/owner, Peter Tran, if I would be able to come in the day before to set up, he told me that I would only be able to come in at 2:00pm, but must leave at 5:00pm. Three hours is still not enough, especially for ceiling decor! I politely asked if we could continue after dining hours and a little pass closing. He rudely told me that no one would be there or want to stay until I finished. I am freaking paying 20k! That is more than they would make in a year on regular dining folks alone! He continuously cut me off while I was trying to explain things to him, telling me that he had customers too! I told him that he had to keep in mind that I am also a customer. He blew off that fact and continued to tell me to get my planning straight and that he could not promise me anything since the wedding is too far in advance. It is 6 months away! If it was too far in advance, then why rush people to book over a year in advance?! This restaurant is ridiculous! BRIDES, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! If you do not want this kind of stress, stay away!!!! Leaving you with some other minor notes, the restaurant is filth. Windows are dirty, Curtains are dusty. They still hang wilted plants around. Their serving plates do not match (I have those plates in my own kitchen).
Nice beginner dim sum. Brought some newbie dim sum family members here while visiting. I really l iked the location, inside a Rosslyn business building. It was on the second floor. The restaurant has large and cramped, but perfect for dim sum. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. A bonus at Saturday lunch time. Unfortunately, even though we received our drink orders immediately, we didn’t see a steam cart for 15 minutes.Once they got to our side, the food was delicious and well prepared. The only disappointment was the lack of variety. My seven-year-old is used to snailes ans crabs, but none were to be found…sad. The service was the only problem. When I asked a waiter about the wait on the carts, he snapped at me. I stood my ground with him, but it embarrassed me in front of family…I would try other dim sum restaurants next time I go. I hear that A&J is excellent. If I was local to this place, I would go again. Not a bad experience overall.
Decent food, ornate decoration.
Ms.viet. The food is quite good and that is why I chose to have my wedding reception here. BUT if I could do it again, I would NEVER recommend this place because the service during my reception was simply DESPICABLE and HUMILIATING. They made my guests get up for everything and rushed the whole wedding. Did I also mention they spitted on the food as they were telling some of my guests where the spoons were?! Respect yourself and save your time and money. It’s a HORRIBLE restaurant!!!
Lunch combos are a good value here. I really wanted dim sum, but that is served weekends only. But, the weekday lunch combos here at China Garden are good value. For only $7, I got a combo plate with Moo Koo Gai Pan, a Spring Roll and Rice. It comes with fried rice but I substituted steamed white rice — all was good!. Service was quick too.
Service is terrible. The food is OK, the service was horrible! Manager allowed us to sit and order around 2:30pm but the waitress and the chef was unwilling to serve, was told there will be a wedding in the evening. What the heck the wedding has something to do with other customers? strange logic.
