Let’s see. We came here b/c we liked their wing at the Kickin Wing Fest. The place is dirty (dining room, bathroom and kitchen). The wings are good. My wife had a mixed drink which had very little liquor in it. My beer was warm so their taps need improvement. The waitress was nice so server is good but I’m big on cleanliness.

8oz draft beer pours…….Fries and nachos were good. Server was very nice, but I sat for almost 10 mins with an empty beer glass. Hard to blame her since all the draft pours are so small.

Quality Deliciousness. Just tried this restaurant tonight as part of Sampling Shockoe and I already plan to come back this week to try other menu items- given all the reviews for the duck fat fries, a friend and I gave them a go- a first for us both but with a unique, well crisped fry was the perfect pairing of curry mayo and a buttermilk chive aioli- while some fries were a bit over salted, I would definitely recommend the fries to start off the meal! The 3 course deal for $25 was concerning as my past experiences with some Restaurant Week venues have been a complete disaster- where the restaurants focus on quantity of patrons in and out the door while completely ignoring food quality, but NOT here! Started with the crab cake- 5oz to be exact and nothing but crabmeat accented perfectly with veggies and lite spices so the flavor was really able to shine through-not overloaded with breaking and patted into a hockey puck. One of the best crab cakes I’ve had while dining out- being a seafood and pasta foodie myself, there is nothing I would have done differently. For my entree I had the shrimp and crabmeat stuffed penne in a white wine, butter sauce- this too was delicious, portion was a bit smaller than I hoped (one scallop, and 3 calamari) and I would haves loved additional chunks of garlic but it too was a delicious meal. My friend had the salmon with fried polenta and zucchini slaw which was all cooked perfectly…I may have been a bit jealous, but happy to have tried two choices. The flat iron steak and chicken are our next adventure, along with the macbites which looked phenomenal! For dessert we had the cupcake-interesting, very unique, can’t say it was for me tho. Service was awesome-Christian was attentive and prompt without being obnoxious. I’m eager to try their regular menu and hoping perhaps some of these specials will find their way to the daily menu. A must try spot along the strip of enticing restaurant fronts!

L-o-v-e. You may think On the Rox Bar and Grill is just a bar with lousy food, but boy would you be wrong. My husband and I get cravings for On the Rox regularly (including right now just typing about it!)If you are looking for one heck of a $4.50 meal…go to On the Rox during their HAPPY HOUR from 3-6 p.m. M-F! All the appetizers and panini’s are half off. We really don’t go any other time besides happy hour because the panini’s and appetizers are our favorite things there…and because we are cheap students. Our all time favorite is their BRAISED BEEF BRISKET PANINI. The meat is tender and sweet and salty. You just have to try it for yourself. Their fries are some of the best in town, seasoned to perfection.-Do get the fries. (If you are getting a basket, pay the extra to get them fried in duck fat!! If you are getting a panini, don’t pay the extra just for the side, the regular fries are still awesome.)-Do get the braised beef brisket panini. The braised beef comes with an onion marmalade and just the right amount of gorgonzola.-Don’t get the chorizo panini. The chorizo panini has a weird flavor, and we usually love all things chorizo-Do get the nachos. They are unique, with yummy braised pork and a fun kick of salsa verde and jalepenos. -Don’t get the waffles. We were really disappointed with the waffles; they are too small and too dry. It’s sad because the idea and flavor are so on point, just executed poorly. And try the crab benedict if you are okay with a really small breakfast, because the crab is delicious! For more info/restaurants visit: http://eatingbycity.blogspot.com/

Delicious. We loved the food when we went, but will only be going back for happy hour because the portions are too small for the regular prices. The fries in duck fat are A-mazing, we loved the beef brisket sandwich, and the crab eggs benedict had an amazing flavor also- but not filling enough for the price. We tried the banana waffles with bacon. It had a fun flavor, but I don’t think I would order it again. We’ll definitely go back!

Stopped in around 4pm for a late lunch. Empty place so I sat at the bar to order lunch and read my paper. A nice quiet late lunch right? But no….the wait staff was energized and loud and talking amongst themselves all right next to where I was sitting. Obnoxious and loud. Menu looked promising for burgers and paninis. Ordered a salad but 1/2 way through the order I had to tell them to make it to go. I couldn’t sit thru the employees chatter. Just too much. Maybe I’m just too old. Anyway took the salad to go and ironically it was very tasty upon trying it later on. But this is a youthful Shockoe Bottom bar and not really catering to a lunch crowd. So for that….it’s probably great.
