The Capitol of Virginia had a legendary cafe deep within its recesses called Chickens. I mourned its loss when I learned that Meriwether's was its replacement in the new visitor center. It looks just like any office building deli counter. Don't be fooled. The salad, cookies, build your own sandwich with ingredients like roasted red peppers and avocado, to its toasty wheat bread, thick sliced, make this place a find you wouldn't know about unless you make plans to visit the Capitol. Which, if tourning Richmond, you should make the Capitol one of your stops. Designed by Thomas Jefferson, it is a good stop for lunch, tour, and gift shop!
