This restaurant is unbelievable! From app’s through dessert – every item is fresh, homemade, and without flaw! Interesting drinks, as well. Our table of 3 had every course, all different items…9 separate dishes plus drinks. Each item was great. Topped off with homemade icecream!!! Only downside – mid week visit with light staff warranted some long pauses…
Lump Crab Appetizer. Light, fresh, wonderful flavors/textures and beautifully plated!
My husband and I went for valentines day. We truly went because it was his birthday. We had a wonderful time. Service was great and so was our food. We will be back.
Collard Greens Cooked with a Slab of Benton Bacon. Cannot even put it in words. These collards are cooked to a perfection of perfect texture and seasoned like not one on my grandmothers’ recipes even touched. Harper is simply the finest chef I have ever known!12 Jan, 2015Raw Indian Rock Oysters. The way Harper finishes these taste sensations simply boggles the mind and taste buds. Best I have ever had. Hands down!
Over. The. Top.. Harper and his team have built an experience that consistently provides the substance of a world-class restaurant without the pretense. The concern for guests is second to none from the minute you walk through the front door. The dcor is simple, maybe even understated, but attention to detail is unmistakable. The staff is always available and friendly, but never overbearing. Glasses are never empty, and suggestions for pairings of food and drink are readily offered upon request, and always spot-on. Harpers passion for the food, and understanding of the art and science behind it, is obvious. Some dishes are considered sacred Southern cuisine and served as they have been for ages, while others have unexpected, but delicious twists. Many items are seasonal, based on the agriculture and aquaculture of eastern VA, and many of the vegetables are grown in HTs own garden. Although a little pricier than other local options, you leave feeling satisfied that youve had a great meal, prepared by an excellent chef, served by some of the most attentive and hospitable staff, in a relaxed and comfortable space.HT is truly one of a kind, and not to be missed!
Birthday dinner a success!!! 2 thumbs up. Adding it to our places we will return to list. Crab season provided for fabulous starter and entree specials. Water and tea glasses never empty. Excellent service as well!
I want to start out with I have been in the restaurant business and a manager for 11 years. I expected fine dining service and got I hop service! The food was awesome!!! I.don’t think paying $18 for a smear of sweet potato, 3 collaflower and a couple of Brussel sprouts was awesome, however it was delicious! I don’t mind paying $30 for a plate at all, but I felt ripped off due to the fact the food cost on that was maybe $2! The server dropped a box off at my table and didn’t attempt to box it for me!!! Even I box my tables food or at least offer!!! Another thing was in fine dining you should take the woman order first … didn’t happen!!! I don’t even know the servers name !! She never told me !!! My point is don’t claim fine dining when you have I hop service!!!!
