Hands down the best. We eat here just about every 2 weeks. After 5 years they know us by name and treat us like family. David can roll a mean sushi roll and sometimes surprises us with a treat for us to try. Ping (his wife) is always there with a smile and is an amazing server. The sushi pieces are big and it’s not because there is lots of rice but because there is lots of fresh fish. The aged dashi tofu is dipped in tempura batter then fried and served in a bowl with ponzu sauce. I can have this sauce on EVERYTHING!! I love the yaki udon, it’s the fat noodles stir fried with meat and veg…Like I said we eat here about once every 2 weeks for the past 5 years and NEVER had a bad meal. I don’t know what the last post is all about…but he’s dead wrong!09 Apr, 2011LOVE this place. This is the only sushi place that we eat at. The staff has spoiled us since we are regulars. But even before we became regulars we really like this place. The fish is always fresh and their menu of authentic Japanese food is huge and wonderful. The Udon soups are yummy. The fried tofu app in ponzu sauce is one of our favorites. We eat here at least 3 times a month.

The second and last time I will come here, $70 for a couple of rice and noodle dishes, for AVERAGE and that’s cutting it close. Yaki soba is not a dry dish , and also fried tofu doesn’t mean taking soft tofu and frying it. Vegetables dishes should have more than thin carrots and onions try broccoli and mushrooms like the places that know what they are doing. I lived in Hawaii 5 years and this place is more expensive then there for what you are ordering , don’t waste your time or money with this place.02 Jan, 2013Averagish. Can’t say I really like it or dislike, yaki soba was little better than average, had better and had worse, no vegetables in it at all other than carrots and small pieces of onion so thats s negative for me. Curry udon was good, standard for that dish. Yaki tori was average. No Japanese people there so don’t expect to get the best traditional stuff out there. Prices a bit on the high side for average to me, probably enough for me to keep looking for a real Japanese restaurant if there are any here. The people raving about this place either don’t know the difference between real Japanese food or just have low standards because there wasn’t anything great about this spot.

Giving Koi Sushi a thumbs up for their Curry Udon specifically. After living in Hawaii and having amazing Japanese food, there isn’t anywhere in Virginia that comes close. That being said, managing my expectations, I can appreciate finding a hot bowl of Curry Udon using the type of noodles I like.

Awesome Sushi!. We’ve been to Koi maybe 50 times in the past 2 years. It’s one of the best in the area- both in price and quality. My husband and I love sushi and we never get tired of their Monster Roll and I could eat the spicy tuna roll for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The sashimi is always fresh- I’ve never had anything bad to say about it. The step-kids have had hibatchi, which is incredible (not like the chain hibatchi restaurants by a long shot), and udon and other noodle dishes that always please. The prices are very reasonable for the area. The setting is not fancy or necessarily intimate, but who cares when you have great food! They do have several booths that have the hole in the floor so you can pretend you’re at a traditional restaurant. I don’t really get that- I’m okay with sitting on a pillow cross-legged while I eat- but I gather that might deter other people. The service is wonderful- they accommodate anything we’ve asked and we’re never left alone for more than 10 minutes at a time.Koi ranks up there with our top 5 places in all of Hampton Roads and we’ve tried probably about 50-60 sushi restaurants; the other good ones are far away in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach- but Koi is easy to get to from Portsmouth or Suffolk- and it’s definitely worth a try!

Go for Lunch!!. Their lunch prices are very reasonable and we go practically once a week. I always order the spicy volcano box and it is fabulous. I have never been unhappy with their miso or salad. Their dinner prices are a little high so I definitely recommend going for lunch! The family who runs it also runs kiwi yo. They are very friendly and sitting at the sushi bar is fun. This is my all time favorite sushi place.

Spicy Volcano Lunch Box. I eat here usually twice a week. The spicy volcano lunch box is amazing. They even let me make substitutions to the veggie tempura. No other sushi place around can beat this lunch box. Try it out sometime.
