Because of health reasons, I choose to limit my intake of hot dogs. In the past, I’d go to Poppy’s Top Dog in Suffolk to get a really good dog. However, my last two visits have been a disappointment. In the earlier of these two visits, I found a significant difference in the quality of the hot dog. I asked about it and was told their regular supplier had delivered that week so they were using a substitute. Fair enough. Went back today. Hot dogs are still sub-par, skinny with tough skins and lack of flavor. Also, it’s obvious they have changed the chili stock as well. It use to be flavorful and mild. Now it tastes like one I’d find on a cheap taco and too spicy for my taste. It’s a shame the owner found it necessary to make these changes. Even if you need to cut costs, the quality of the product should not be the way you do it. I’ll not go back. Oh, the 2.0 is rating the quality of the French fries.
On vacation. My wife and I found Poppy’s while on vacation. We both had hotdogs which we enjoyed as they had good taste and crunch. The people running the place were extremely nice and it was a real pleasure to eat there. We will be back next time we pass thru town.
