I went here on a groupon deal. I do not recommend. The food was overpriced and lacked flavor. Roasted red pepper soup had a nasty aftertaste. My steak was tough and bland. I will NOT be returning.
Slow as Molasses without the Flavor. The food lacked seasoning and flavor. The pumpkin ravioli was swimming in bland sauce. Our drinks were filled one time and left empty the rest of the time. Our waitress was pleasant but was too busy to perform her job, due to what seemed like understaffing.
Average Food. The best food item was the warm basket of bread with butter brought out at the beginning of the meal. Calamari appetizer was chewy and unevenly seasoned. There was very little of it as well. Shrimp and grits: the grits were perfect – creamy with a nice cheese blend. Shrimp were fresh and nicely seasoned. The sauce that accompanied grits was way off balance, harsh tasting, and nearly ruined the dish. Dining mate ate special which was carbonara. Ok, the restaurant itself is Fan Diner Decor. It’s really dark and could be romantic or a good place to hang out if you’re hiding from someone. Service was lmarginal Drinks were not refilled. Confusion about bill. Plates removed without asking when there was still appetizer on the plate. This restaurant is average. It’s not a restaurant that makes an impression. I say skip it.
Food was great – service was horrible! We waited over an hour for our entree. Server never stopped by to check on our drinks until my husband tracked her down. No one seemed to care. The food was however great! We’re going to go back again to see if the service improves.
I liked it…. Prompted by a Groupon, met a friend for dinner on a weeknight. It was about half full, and there was one server working, but she was quite friendly. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the scallops. Both were really good dishes, but the scallops were the best. They were very tender and sat atop something that had corn in it that was delicious. We had some beers, and their prices were very reasonable. Enjoyable night out and definitely worth a return.
Was I at the same place?. We went to Helen’s for the first time on Saturday night, November 19, 2011. Arrived on time for our 7:00 reservation and was seated promptly, however went down hill from there. Service was terrible as if we were not even there, the waitress walked by several times and never once stopped to ask if we wanted drinks, etc. No explanation for the hour and 15 minute wait it took to get our entree. Aside from the appetizer, the food was HORRIBLE, I could not even eat mine, which was the vegetarian risotto which was not cooked properly and had absolutely no flavor. My husband had the fish which was the special of the evening portion size was child like. Our visit was prompted by a Groupon opportunity with this we anticipated their best performance. We will never go back to this establishment especially with all the fine restaurants in the same area.
