Although I’ve been to Ipanema before and loved it I’m sorry to say I won’t be returning. I was so excited to order the risotto with squash and Brussel sprouts as I love this dish. Lets just say they either switched chefs since the last time I visited or someone was not on their A game. First bite of the risotto was awful. It’s was way undercooked. At almost $14 for the dish and at the risk of getting an upset stomach I decided that I had to tell our waitress. She was very pleasant and took it back then asked if I wanted anything else. I ended up getting the Gouda sandwich which was very good. Bad part was that the fries that came with it were not cooked all the way. Risotto is a hard dish to make. If it can’t be done right it shouldn’t even be offered on the menu!
Like a vegetarian place. Sweet potato fritters are fantastic as well as the pot pie. Don’t bother with the fake chorizo pasta, which was tasteless. Wine selection woefully devoid of California reds. eatdrinkrva.blogspot.com
Great food , especially the mocha cheesecake !!!! Omg!!
What?. I have to tell you, I do not see what the fuss is about. I’m a longtime vegetarian of almost ten years, and I have say, the food was not good. I was initially put off by the staff. As soon as my partner and I walked in we were immediately told that the only menu was on the chalk board at the front entrance. Okay a little odd for a sit down restaurant but we’ll roll with it. We both ordered the bbq tofu plate with vegan mac and cheese and a green. While we waited on our food the staff stood around socializing, sometimes dancing, all while our drinks needed to be refilled. When our food arrived it came in piles on a plate, bbq sauce everywhere, and aside from the bbq sauce there was not much taste. When you only have a few items on a menu you have to be sure that those items will actually be good. We were never asked by our waitress if we needed anything, no napkins, no refills, just mindless dancing and socializing from a staff that seemed to have no clue they were running a business or at work. There are plenty of vegetarian restaurants in Richmond so don’t waste your time here.
Top 5 of RVA. Got a chance to finally check out the new chef. W/ a veggie spouse, this place has always been a goto. Glad to see the quality is still there, and they still offer one meat dish. TW got the fried gnochi, and I got the fish stew… Both were fantastic. Missed our chance for the PB icing cake… And probably should have gotten the carrot. We ended up getting the coffee cake… And for some reason, I thought it would have coffee flavor in it. They did brew us some fresh java, and it was good.
Best sweet potatoe fries in the WORLD!. All of Ipanema’s food is great — all fresh and healthy if not organic, and homemade. What stands out for me is 3 things – The Sweet Potatoe Fries are out of this world — many of my out-of-towner friends will contest to this / The beer selections is incredible / The desserts are easily by themselves a reason to come here — organic and home made!!!
Try the jackfruit tacos. Great salmon enterees. Super burritos.
