Our favorite. We go to Rowland’s whenever we can. It is our special occasion or just Tuesday night spot. The atmosphere is festive, but you can hear each other talk. It’s pretty and comfortable. The staff is always attentive and knowledgeable. Best of all, though, is the food. It is creative, delicious, fresh and varied. They have recently made their menu more accessible to encourage more thrifty diners, but they haven’t compromised on the choices. The new pizzas are terrific, but I still like to order an entree because they are so delicious. Don’t skip dessert. They are over the top.

Excellent food and service. My partner and I went here for Restaurant Week and we are so glad to have found this place–we think it will become one of our favorite places. The location is great and the restaurant itself is attractive and cozy. We were immediately seated at the bar. Our attendant was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. She allowed us to taste several wines before choosing one, and her sample pours were more generous than some. The wine pours in general were very nice. The chef/owner came out and got himself a glass of wine. He was very personable and friendly, and obviously was enjoying himself. The food was amazing. I had the calamari tacos–what a great idea! My partner had the jalapeno crab bisque, which was super yummy. I had the salmon as my entree, which turned out to be one of the most flavorful salmons I ever had. My partner enjoyed his short ribs and they tasted good to me as well. For dessert I had the chocolate sponge cake, which was the only mediocre component of the meal. He had the pumpkin flan and he said it was amazing (I didn’t try–flan weirds me out). The food came out hot and quickly.I recommend this place and hope to return to sample more of their menu. eatdrinkrva.blogspot.com

Good food, but….. We stopped in to Rowalnds on a Wednesday night for a late dinner. I wanted to order the lamb, but they were out. I tried to order the flounder, also out! I ended up ordering the pasta. It was good, but not worth the cost. Honestly, I didn’t plan to go there for pasta! Service was good, but it wold have been nice to have the items available that we’re on the menu.

Excellant food!! New York Strip was best I have ever had! So much good flavor! Also tried the Blacken Tuna as a special for the night, also incredible. I will continue! Calimari was extremely good. Sauted Calimari but still slightly breaded with red peppers and feta! Butter bean cake sounded weird but a must try! Outdoor seating! We have found our favorite spot! Service was friendly and just perfect! 5 stars!!

Nice experience. I have eaten at Rowlands twice, and each time was enjoyable with great food and wonderfully attentive service. Once a friend and I were engaged in discussion so long that the server came over and ask if he could reheat our food! Our second visit the server was so intent on getting a wine selection right for a friend he brought out 5-6 samples to taste.

Poor Service. I dined at Rowlands on Thursday, November 9th and have to say the food was decent but the service was less than spectacular. It was busy and since we did not have reservations we were instructed we needed to sit at the bar. I should note the dinning room was about 75 to 80% full so there were free tables that remained free most of the night. When we arrived it was the busiest and over the next hour and a half it dwindled to about 45/50% full. (Honestly they could have found places for us to sit but they really didn’t seem like they wanted to help.) We really were fine with dining at the bar until we tried to fit in. The seats we had were not really acceptable for dining and he knew that was our intention so to be honest I was not super happy. The drink prep station was directly in front of me which further cut into the small amount of space that was available to me but hey we didn’t have reservations. We had been seated for probably 5 minutes before the bartender even approach us about drinks. During that time a couple walked in, were greeted by the same bartender and he immediately asked what drinks they would be having. Next the drinks were poured and they were sipping their wine. All this happened over the five minutes and the bartender had not really even said hello to me and my date. I finally flagged the bartender down to taste some wine before ordering a bottle. The food took a long time to come out. Much slower than the people around us. Even the person next to us ordered food abotu 5-10 minutes after yet somehow his hot app arrived before the server brought us bread much less the salads that came with out meals. The dinner took even longer and in the end we bought a second bottle of wine. I was trying not to let the poor service ruin my night and honestly I knew a review was in order to let Rowlands know how they screwed this up. As for the actual food I ordered the veal and that was tasty but it was over sauced. I couldn’t even see the mashed potatoes there was so much gravy on the dish. My date ordered the pork chop and it was slightly over cooked and dry. Not what I expect from a fine dining experience. Not that it seemed the bartender cared. I can tell you I will not be back to Rowlands to dine and would recommend many other great places in Richmond.
