Great Food – Average Service. My family and I have been going to Athens since it was located in Fairfield Shopping Center back in the 1980s. This place makes one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted. The grape leaves are to die for too. Based off of my observations, the biggest problem with this place is the owner. He is extremely tough on his wait staff and therefore has a high turnover rate. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to work for him. yikes.Edit (Jan 2015) same crap different day. I went to Athens the other night, food was delicious. After eating, I went up to the counter to pay and the owner sat on a bar stool no more than 10 feet away from the register. He glared at me and didn’t bother to stand up and check me out… instead, he waited a minute for his wife (who was in the back working her ass off) to come up front and check me out. I continue to be unimpressed by his attitude and work ethic. Try smiling and appreciating the people that make your business go. JMO
If you want family atmosphere and great authentic greek food, Athen’s is the place to go! The pizza is awesome and their Gyros are to die for! Athen’s prices are great and i think ill try something from their new items on the menu next time. Will be back for more and would recommend Athen’s to anyone!
Cleanest restaurant in Hampton Roads! Great food for a great price.. I love the homemade spaghetti sauce and my husband’s favorite is their gyro sandwich and their pizzas. We go out a lot to eat, and Athens is definitely one of our favorite!
Service Good – Food Not!. Possibly the worst lunch I’ve had! $25 wasted on lunch for two.The Calamari, in appearance and taste, was a substandard frozen & pre-breaded product. The breading was basic bland that I could have found better in the local market freezer and the meat itself was both rubbery and had a strong fish taste. Sandwich Gyro meat’s predominant flavors were pepper and grease; we didn’t detect any lamb taste (or beef for that matter). The meat is not cooked-rotisserie style and carved, but rather meat strips (probably frozen) sent under a broiler and cooked (we asked.) My sandwich was so greasy, oil leaked out onto the plate. Would not recommend or go here again.

Nothing special. I had a gyro which was good for the price but the menu was very small and I would’ve liked to see more greek options.
Ok for a cheap night out. This place was ok. I like the Greek place across from Cinema Cafe better, but I can’t think of the name. We had the sampler and it was, well, ok. Not great, but I’ve had worse. The atmosphere was cozy and our server was very friendly.
