I honestly don’t know what everyone on here is talking about. This place is awesome. My boyfriend and I go here all the time. He has a shellfish allergy and they are always very careful when we order. Volcano roll is our favorite.

Decent selection of sushi, sashimi, and tempura. Modest selection of teryaki dishes, too. Their lunch/dinner specials give you 18 pieces of made-to-order sushi rolls. Sparse decorations so if you’re looking for ‘mood’ go somewhere else. But if you’re looking for a fresh delicious meal this is a great place.

Great Teriyaki. We have been going to Flaming Japan since they opened and the teriyaki is always good. They also have a good California roll.

Perhaps stick to the cooked cuisine… This new strip mall Chinese restaurant is situated close to DMV, Farm Fresh, and Target. I work about 5 minutes away and a coworker raved about the food they had gotten so I decided maybe it was the perfect spot to try for my lunch break. I ordered two sushi rolls (the rainbow rolls and the spicy salmon), the vegetable tempura, a house salad, and a miso soup. (Don’t worry, this is for me to eat over a 12 hour period..)Anyways, first red flag was that they were out of miso soup. Then I went to pick up the food and saw its modest and economic interior. The sushi ‘bar’ setup showed small amounts of raw fish through the little window that would certainly evoke laughter from true sushi bar establishments. They were a bit unorganized while I waited for them to bag my order and had not included any soy sauce and instead handed me an empty cup to pour my own soy sauce from one of the containers on the tables. Before I walked out the door I had this feeling like I should check my bag before leaving and I am glad I did. They had forgotten my most expensive roll…The sushi chef was not even done making it when I noticed this but alas, it was fixed. Back to work I went to eat and I could not finish either roll.. the fish was not rotten but it was definitely not fresh and tasted like grocery store grade. The vegetable tempura was undercooked as a lot of the batter was just mush and barely fried. At least the salad was decent..I have since seen my coworkers devour large portions of dishes like beef and broccoli and chicken teriyaki from Flaming Japan and have to admit that these items looked wonderful. I will give them another chance so I can try their hot foods… but when I want my sushi.. I will stick with an authentic sushi bar.
