This local gem has quickly become a tourist food trap. The service is okay at best. The food is good if you get there during happy hourand when they are running specials. If you go there during the week the food is sub par. The portions have gotten smaller and smaller for the same price. I had a horrible dinner experience at harpoons summer 2015 and reached out to the owner via their Facebook page. I was not looking for my money back or any compensation. I just wanted to call attention to a few things about my meal (pictures included). I never as much got a, I’m sorry or this is not our standard and I will look into it. Total disregard for customers. So this summer 2016I’m going to totally disregard Harpoon Larry’s as an option for a place to eat.
The service was HORRIBLE! The food was barely edible. I will never go spend my money there again.
Blackened fish tacos and surf and turf sliders – very good! Would recommend this place.
Let me start by saying I love Harpoon Larry’s in Nags Head. I DO NOT like the VA Beach location. The service was great but the food sucked. We were sat by 3:50 but were not able to order the 1/2 off shrimp deal which ended at 4. We ordered it anyway and paid the $9.99 for the absolute worst steamed shrimp. Over cooked, under seasoned and puny. My boyfriend ordered a pia colada (I know) but it tasted like ice. He ordered two shots to actually make it taste better and they charged us for it. Crab dip was crap. Cold, clearly frozen crab, was the topping of just cream based dip which had no flavor. It was served with tortilla chips. The whole thing cost us $36 plus tip. Will not go back. Will not recommend. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Oysters were very small for the type; steamed shrimp were tough and had no flavor. Manager would not do anything for us but argue with us. We simply said we had concerns about the good and wanted the mgr to know. We did not ask for anything but he got loud and threatened us with the cops if we didn’t pay!?! We reiterated we were not asking for anything but trying to let him know about an issue.
Very good. Best seafood we have had in va beach…. Fast friendly service…. Great local atmosphere…. Definitely coming back on our next trip!
The staff is extremely friendly – like you just walked into your neighborhood hang out. The food was good and it was the best bar experience out of 7 bars during our vacation.
