I had high hopes for this place based on the 4.0 rating it has and I always love to try local places over chains, but we just had the WORST experience at this place. First, I called early in the day to see if they took reservations, assuming we’d be fighting tourists since it’s so close to the oceanfront, and the girl who answered the phone was rude and seemed annoyed that someone had called. We decided to try it anyway, which was a mistake. We ordered waters for the table and it tasted like stale coffee – because, as the waiter/busboy told us, they get the water from their coffee pot. Then the food arrived and it ranged from okay hush puppies to downright inedible lobster. I LOVE lobster and I’ve had great and poor lobster, but I couldn’t stomach what they served me. I left it all on the plate aside from the only terrible bite I had. The prices we paid for bad food and bad service were ridiculous. Next time we will brave the crowds and wait for a table at a tried and true place like Watermans or Tautogs and get excellent food and service for the same price. It takes a lot for me to write such negative reviews but I honestly feel a bit cheated by how much we paid for such an awful experience.
What a hidden local gem! The specials are awesome. They post their specials on Facebook and keep their social media updated daily.I think this is a very endearing quality in our age of technology. You can always find out what’s going on at Nick’s on any given night in case you are famished and lazy. The portions are huge! The prices are moderate for seafood but you alwaysget your moneys worth!!! Full bar also and the drinks are just right. I love eating here. I often take out of town friends here when they ask for a local seafood dive. Do not go here for atmosphere or if you want to impress somebody. This is just a local dive with good food and value.
Ok I may have ordered the wrong meal Soft Crab no meat didn’t care for it at all The service was very personal and lots of locals the seafood platter looked good I’d try it again… Cool local place!!
Blackened platter-Tuna way over cooked and dry, scallops had so much blackening spice that i couldnt taste the scallops. shrimp over cooked and dry. hush puppies are good. fresh seafood ill prepared
Friendly Service, Fresh Seafood. Not fine dining, but a fun, friendly place with perfectly prepared fresh seafood, and excellent service. We were a lunch group of seven and all were pleased with their selections that included soft shell crabs, oysters, crab cakes, and flounder. The breading on fried selections is light and crispy, allowing the taste of the seafood to shine. Try the stewed tomatoes as a side–delicious! The servers took our orders promptly, delivered our food hot and all at the same time. For non seafood lovers, there are numerous other selections. Will definitely return!
Nice hidden gem. Had dinner here tonight at the advice of a local. Reminded me of the local mom n pop cafe’s back home. Friendly staff and customers and the food was great. I’ll be back the next time I’m in town.
