I am a regular to Sol and have been for about 20 years. Although it is a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant, the family who owns the business are of Guatemalan dissent. The food is authentic, the employees are friendly, the food is fast, and the atmosphere is inviting (if you are looking for a place with culture). The prices are relatively inexpensive and is a great place to try out if you are looking for something different. I would not recommend going to Sol for a fancy date, but definitely a place for a casual lunch or dinner. Hands down my favorite restaurant in the Hampton Roads area, by far. *****
Friendly gentleman greeted me at the door and checked on me throughout service. Guacamole was very good and tasted fresh. Salsa was good, but not as hot as I like it (I’m from Texas, so I love my salsa HOT). I ordered a lunch special and it was out within 5 minutes! It was hot, fresh, and all tasted good. Definitely not Tex-Mex that I’m used to, but I’d eat here anytime.
Oh man. It’s bad. Real bad. Waiter was talking on his cell phone for half my service. Didn’t bring out my drink until my food was ready. Chips were awfuly stale. And wow… This place is dirty.
Very unimpressed. The chips were stale, the refried beans were an off white-brown color and lacked flavor (they seemed very watered down), the beef in the burrito was tough, the service was poor, and the restaurant itself was very dirty. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Very unimpressed!! No flavor, not hot and you can tell that the food was not fresh at all…beef was soggy and refried beans were a gray color and soupy consistency…don’t waste your money…El Azteca on E Little Creek has the best Mexican around hands down!
Awful, dirty. When we entered the restaurant a large female hostess walked right into my wife to get the menus. When we got our dinners my wifes plate was dirty with a caked on layer of soft burrito shell still gummed to the plate under her beans. When we showed the hostess she took my wife’s fork and scraped the dirty spot and argued that that was cheese from her burrito. When we said it was not the woman too my wife’s plate without a word. The the hostess returned with the same food (not a fresh dinner order) simply placed on another plate. We refused to eat the dinner or pay for it. The attitude from the hostess was horrible and the plate was filthy. Avoid this dump!
