The prices are too high. These prices are set for 5 star hotels and this hotel is a mere 2-3 star. The food was mediocre. The service was slow and not equipped for a busy weekend during the month of May. My husband and I only ate here because we stayed here for a conference. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It’s a shame because the location is awesome – right on the beach! Views and outdoor seating was really nice but when going out to eat, food and service is the most important. Wouldn’t mind the prices, if the food reflected them.

I went here with my wife during the 2012 restraraunt week. When we arrived the restraraunt was clean and we were seated and given a great table facing the beach. We were promptly greeted and had our drink orders taken which came back to us in a reasonable time. We ordered a dozen of the raw oysters which tasted fresh and were good size too. For our meals we both ordered the mahi sticks and I ordered the bacon wrapped flounder stuffed with Brie and spinach. My wife ordered the filet and we both got the napolian for dessert. The mahi sticks were ok, although I am not convinced it was mahi and if it was I personally think its a waste of a great tasting fish to fry it (just my opinion). The batter was very thick and really hard but the sauces it came with we’re quite good, a terriyake glaze and maybe a pepper jelly sauce. I wasn’t that impressed with the dish as a whole, it wasn’t bad, just not something I would order again. The filet my wife got was ok. It was cooked well but the seasoning wasn’t very good or anything noteworthy. The veggies and risotto were good though. When my dish came out it looked very nicely arranged and plated. The fish however was raw. I love sushi and especially rare tuna, flounder is not a fish that should be eaten unless cooked thoroughly. I took one bite and realized it wasnt cooked and told the waitress, she agreed, apologized and sent it back for a new plate. It came back out cooked fine but I did not like it. The combo of the bacon, brie, spinach and flounder was just not good. It sounded interesting and that’s why I tried it. I am a big guy and normally clean my plate but I just simply could not eat this dish. It was bad. The veggies and risotto were consistant though, they were good. The dessert was fine and was a good pallet cleanser after the flounder. The service was great and the restraraunt itself was decent as well. I wish my first experience at Surf Club was better because it has such a great view. I’d like to go back just my first time left a bad taste in my mouth, literally.

Barman….really?. I forgot to mention on a previous review that i had also watched the Bartender, especially after he had talked himself up a bit….while sipping a merlot, I heard someone order a Bombay Sapphire Martini and the bartender mixed it well enough taking great care not to spill this wonderful and pricey Gin; he then proceeded to do something that made me wanna scream…HE SHOOK THAT SHAKER TO DEATH! Anyone who has any even the remoptest knowledge of Gin knows that it bruises easilly and when shaken it is flat and almost rancid tasting….Gin is meant to be gently stirred, it is the reason Mr Bond asks for a Vodka martini SHAKEN not STIRRED!I definitely would never return.07 Apr, 2011Really?. I went to the Surf Club Ocean Grille with a group of culinary students, of which I am one, and I don’t think that any of us wete that impressed. I cannot speak for anyone but me, so I have to let this out…..The Spicy Tuna Ahi Wraps were actually really good, not too hot and just enough kick to make me want more, however, that was the end of the high points….the She Crab soup was not even anywhere near spot on with me…it lacked CRAB, lacked that hint of Old Bay and lacked even the remotest sense of flavour. Then there was The Crab cake, which in iteself was left half eaten on my plate, I actually think I ate too much of it for I left with heartburn! Full of fillers and the crab was shredded to bits…shame. Let’s move on to the main course…Lamb Chops with the hint of blueberry…I cannot see the pairing here and the chops were so dry and overdone that I needed to buy an IPA to wash them down. Dessert was an even bigger disappointment….S’mores en Pappiote….for one S’mores are a blight upon the dessert world, they should remain on the child’s menu at a backyard bon fire….Sorry if this is too brash, but it is my opinion and I did liike the fact that the head Chef was honest and up front with all of us, but the food leaves a lot to be desired and maybe I should go back during peak season to see if the fare is better.

Very Disappointed. When I called for reservations, I asked if there was parking in front of the restaurant. The person answering the phone said yes and there was no parking. We had to park in front of the hotel and walk. We did have a beautiful table overlooking the beach. I would say that our service was marginal. I felt like our server was an inexperienced server for such a high end restuarant. We ordered appetizers and my husband’s and father’s salad looked delicious and fresh. I ordered the fresh mozzerella and tomato dish with crispy proccuitto ham. The tomatoes were not fresh, thick or even ripe. The inside was yellow and part of the core was on the tomato. The crispy proccuitto ham was crispy bacon. I was not impressed. They did not take our appetizer dishes away. We had to hand them our dishes and we swopped for our entree dish. All of our dishes were cold, and the portions were extremely small for the price. My cedar smoked salmon was tough and tiny. The crispy potato gouda pancake was cold and greasy. It came with 4 pieces of asparagus. My mother ordered the beer battered shrimp. Her’s was cold and tastless. She didn’t want to finish her meal. My father ordered the special and he did seem pleased with his choice. My husband ordered the crab cake. Again, the portions was small for the money. We were also disappointed when we orderd a carrot cake for dessert. It was not a slice it was a round piece of cake sliced in half with frosting on it. We did not finish this dessert that seemed to be unthawed before serving it to us. I would say that the company was excellent, but the meal was unsavory. I’mso glad that we had a coupon. We will not be going back to this resturant again.

Great bar, best view, fabulous wine list, and our FAVORITE BARTENDER in Virginia Beach!! Ask for Jeremy at the bar and tell him Michelle sent you! Try the cheese plate with a glass of wine, or the Seafood Enchilada (enough for 2) and watch the waves! He makes a mean Mojito and Soco & Lime too!!
