I’m surprised this is rated so low. Everything we ordered for brunch was very good. The service was strange but they weren’t rude, just aloof. While my baked eggs were just ok, the lemon top was cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The crab Benedict was so good. Sweet crab with a creamy, decadent sauce over an herbaceous dill biscuit. My daughter’s chicken and waffles won the best brunch dish though. Sweet, floral honey and crispy, tender waffles with perfectly cooked roasted chicken. My only complaint would be drink sizes. While our Bloody Mary was well done, it was very small for the price.

Max and I had fond memories of our date night at Kapnos in DC, and were so excited to discover that there was another location in Ballston. We brought along our friend Becky, and were not disappointed. The location was easy to find, and easy to snag a parking spot – an easy advantage over any location in DC.We arrived and were seated upstairs, which provided a pleasant surprise – an aerial view of the chefs preparing fresh stone baked flatbread. The flatbread we were soon to be eating. We started off with the favosalata (one of our favorites from the DC location), and a the tyrokaftari (I’ll pretend I can pronounce that). The dip that shall not be named was feta based, and loaded with grains and smoked manouri. It was devoured. We moved on from dips to a delightfully sweet dish of dolmades. It was a great prep for the savory delight that was about to find its way to our table.Four our main course we enjoyed grilled broccolini, cumin yogurt marinated short rib souvlaki, and spit-roasted pork served with harissa spiced potato salad. The broccolini was perfectly grilled and served with an apricot, hazelnut and tahini yogurt. The broccolini was delightfully crisp and tender. I was most impressed by the spit roasted pork. It was seared, and the crunch was paired perfectly with the potato salad. I was surprised to find the potato salad, spiced with harissa, was hardly spicy at all.Once again, I was completely in love with a great local food destination. While hardly intimate like their location in DC, if you’re looking for a great food to be shared with friends and family I would definitely recommend Kapnos Taverna.
I believe that a Greek restaurant should be judged on their octopus and their Charred Octopus is spot-on
