It as Nam’s birthday recently so we decided that it would be great to hit up a local Thai restaurant. Tara Temple is right up the road from work in Ballston. We got a slew of dishes and drinks and in general it was a great time. I would advise however – to be wary of the chili marks on the menu, as one chili is much spicier than you would suspect. When you go out to celebrate a birthday it’s always best to make sure you go above and beyond the normal fare. You have to make sure you hit every note with the dishes brought out. It’s not a birthday dinner if you can’t use the word debauchery to describe it.We all started off with a round of ‘woo woo’ cocktails or beers. Comparatively the draft list was short, but the bottle and cocktail menu more than made up for it. The woo woo was sweet, the peach schnaps really came through. If you’re looking for clear and lethal – I was peachy keen on the woo woo.Of the appetizers we shared the sun dried beef and potstickers really shined. The sun dried beef was crispy, moist, and the sauce it was served with had the perfect amount of spice. The potstickers themselves were good, but the sauce was mind-blowing. It was a soy sauce, but it was sweet with notes of balsamic vinegar. For the main course I enjoyed their fried pork belly (Ka Naa). It was like chant thick strips of bacon cut into cubes, deep fried, and tossed in a spicy broth with perfectly sauted broccoli. The broccoli was tender but still crisp. What’s great about Tara Temple is that they take it beyond the food. The service is beyond stellar. Our server was all smiles and full of jokes. The management was friendly and come over on a regular basis to check on how we were enjoying the meal. The atmosphere was dark and sophisticated, but casual and friendly. I really look forward to going back in the future. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate any special occasion, for a amazing happy hour specials, and has a diverse menu I would definitely recommend heading over to Tara Temple in Ballston.

No highchairs. Service OK – not great and not overly friendly or acomodating. Menu is EXCELLENT and food consistent and quite good. Nice outside dining. Great wines. NOT child friendly. NO HIGH CHAIRS so if we bring the toddler it’s in warmer weather to sit outside. Great neighborhood. A little expensive….but I would recommend. Cool red interior. Club feel.

Good food, slow service, quick mouse…. Food is tasty but not much about presentation.I’ve only been there two or three times and each time there’s hardly been any one there and yet the service has been painfully slow.Yep. Up to you if you want to go, but I have to warn you that a saw a mouse in the dining room. Not just a glimpse either, this little critter zig-zagged it’s way around for several minutes.

Good food, little pricey, odd vibe. This is a good neighborhood restaurant, but I wouldn’t drive to NVA just to eat here. The food has been consistently good (if somewhat overpriced), but the place has a weird vibe. It’s designed more like a bar than a restaurant, so the tables are not comfortable for having meals except the long table in the sushi side. The service is mixed. One night my friends and I went in for drinks and it took the bartender over 10 minutes to make 4 drinks, and there were no other clients in the place.
