I avoided this gem for too long because of subpar reviews but it’s my new favorite in Ballston. Every single thing we ordered was on point. I am already a spicy tuna fan but their roll was more tuna than rice and let the seafood flavor shine. I will go back again and again. The lobster buns were pillowy and full of a good about of lobster. So. Dang. Good.
Not sure why ratings so low here. This shop is excellent. Steam buns were very nice although I’ve had a little more filling at other Ramen Shops. Soup broth was one of best I’ve tasted. Noodles had bite. Beautiful bowl with nice extras like fresh ginger. Very nice green tea , loose not in a bag so you get the umami.
Mona opened up here in Arlington recently, and I had read a bit online about their ramen so Max and I made it over for dinner after our long trip back from Ohio. When we made it in, we were surprised by how small the space is. There really isn’t much room to get cozy. We immediately decided his was a lunch spot, not a date night location. They have two long communal tables – which we were unfortunately sat at – and a handful of smaller tables for groups of two to four. The pork buns were astounding. The pork was crispy, and served in the tender bun with a kimchi slaw and a spicy mayo it totally lived up to expectations. They were immediately devoured. I would come back for those buns alone. The Ox tail ramen was equally delicious, if not a bit too salty. You could tell the broth was prepared carefully, and the chef was tasting each batch as it went out. The soy sauce broth that max had was a little too much for me, saltiness wise. I found myself wishing they were a little paired back.Saltiness aside, Yona is a unique experience in Arlington. Ballston is quickly developing as a hot spot for food outside of the district – and Yona really shines here. I’m proud to have it in my community. If you’re looking for a communal space to snatch lunch with friends, or authentic ramen served with your favorite tea I would definitely recommend Yona in Ballston.
