Rude Staff Good Music/Food. Good music and food but the wait staff makes snide, crude remarks about customers and take half an hour before they even take your drink orders. Been here half a dozen times and the experience has been the same. Will not being back again sorry to say.
Dark, Dirty , & Digusting. Greasy food served in dimly lit rooms with zombie wait staff.
Terrible service. I walked into blue 5 for dinner with two friends. We let the hostess know we would be 3. We did not make a reservation, mainly because we just forgot. I work in the restaurant industry so does my family so I understand if you walk into a restaurant on a Friday night without reservations the likelihood of getting a table without a wait is slim to none. Needless to say we were prepared to have some drinks beforehand. The hostess says they actually do have a table and then makes a snide remark to a coworker about how we didn’t make a reservation on a friday night. I don’t think she knew I heard her. So rude. That did not make me feel welcome at all. Once we were seated the server did not come to our table for 20 minutes, when she finally did she asked if we wanted water… No greeting, no nothing. Seriously?! I should have walked out after the hostesses comment but I still left 18% which could have been 25%. The food was good but that was all.
The Big Grease Pit. We went here for dinner before a concert and had 17 people in our group. Dinner took over an hour to arrive after we placed our order. The kitchen had smoking grease pouring out into the restuarant so naturally we smelled like that for the entire concert. My dinner was completely overpriced- the beef pasta for $17 consisted of 4 marble size pieces of beef in a soupy sauce that was very difficult to eat and the collard greens had so much pickle juice they were inedible. My friends salad was missing half the ingredients and they were out of every other beer we tried to order. Our bill was extremely high. I suggest you pick another restuarant and skip this one!!
Frequent often for dinner and drinks, love it, review is for event venue :). We had a small destination wedding on a beach, and had a large reception back home at Blue 5 a week later. We had originally booked the Red Room downstairs, which is a speak-easy style, with cocktail tables and a dark decor of red and black. It’s adorable, and perfect for a good party, but the new White Room on the 2nd floor happened to have a cancellation days before our event, and Blue 5 offered for us to move up there instead. We took one look at the room and jumped at the chance 🙂 The White Room is large and open, with gorgeous hardwood floors and huge windows on two sides, overlooking the Roanoke municipal building and Kirk Ave. It has a large bar with 4 beer taps and beautiful highlight lighting throughout the room. We had a rustic beach theme to our decor, with shells, burlap, and white candles, and it worked perfectly on the white table cloths. As the sun went down, the ambiance was fantastic. It was a nice day so we had the windows open, and was such a nice atmosphere. The staff was fantastic – our guests had nothing to say but nice things, and one of the bartenders checked on me (the bride) every 30 mins or so, to see if I needed a drink or just some water. Without her, I might have passed out from dehydration, I was so busy and kept forgetting to drink 🙂 The food was fantastic (we highly recommend the meatballs and the jambalaya dip!) and the timing of refills was perfect. Most of all, Angela was so helpful in both the planning and execution of our event. She met up with us about 2 weeks out and finalized all the details, from the music (we just used their Pandora option), to the setup of the room, to what food and drink we would serve, and even a quote of the price that was right in our range, and the night came in at that price by the end. We could not have been happier with our event at Blue 5, and so many of our friends and family commented on how beautiful the room is and how nice the evening was, we would definitely recommend Blue 5!
Not the best on Valentine’s Day. We are new to Roanoke and decided to go to the Blue Five for their Valentine’s special. For the $65.00 dinner for two we received 3 of the tiniest oysters I had ever seen (why not have an even number for a dinner for 2?), a prime ribeye main course (the title is deceiving), and the banana split for dessert. Evidently, we expected more than what we got for the dessert: the banana split was one banana split in half with a wooden dowl up through the middle with some chocolate melted over each side. The experience was so seriously bad, we could not recommend the Blue Five to anyone.
Blue 5 Experience. I took my special someone to the Blue 5 in Roanoke VA on valentine’s day 2014 and paid an extra $20 to eat in the red room. We did not leave as happy customers. When the waiter brought our food, my wife didn’t get what she ordered. The waiter admitted they screwed up and he went back to remake her dinner. In the meantime my dinner got cold. I’ve had mistakes happen at other restaurants before, but they have always tried to make it up to me so that I leave the establishment with some good memories. Not at the Blue 5. We probably won’t go back.
