Ice cream!. The ice cream is wonderful! I do not think that the staff are very polite at times. The one lady seemed annoyed by my husband asking if we ordered at the table or at the counter? The sigh is hanging above the register and this was out first time in. I would just be a little more nicer to folks that are coming into support this wonderful ice cream parlor!
Absolutely adore this place! Locally owned, very unique, with excellent ice cream and fabulous grill cheeses! We live to walk down have lunch/dinner, our favorite dairy splurge, and walk back home. A neighborhood joint that keeps you coming back and it never gets old! Thanks, Pop’s for the grill cheeses, popcorn, and milkshakes(that’s my favorite)!

Not to be missed when traveling to or through Roanoke.. Who says one cant turn back the hands of time? A visit to Pops Ice Cream & Soda Bar may just dispel such a long held belief.The atmosphere is all yesteryear but the multitude of varieties and flavors are present day, novel and bold.I ordered a Southwestern grilled cheese with a strawberry malt and some pumpkin ice cream for dessert. Everything was wonderful. My only request is for a stronger coffee flavor in the coffee ice cream I sampled.My gal had the three cheese grilled sandwich with a chocolate malt. For dessert she went all out with a generous piece of chocolate raspberry cake served with whipped cream and hot fudge. There wasnt a crumb left on the plate.The Smiley face potato cake is a perfect accompaniment and on my next trip I plan to order one or two sides worth of them.I greatly admire the proprietors attention to detail. Their detailed stories about the vintage appliances and retro furnishings are a great way to pass the time while indulging in the oh-so-good menu items.I enjoyed Pops Ice Cream & Soda Bar so much that I will consider a trip to Roanoke a disappointment if I dont visit the restaurant at least once.
Grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing!!! I love how they’re served with popcorn and a smiley face potato. 🙂 the ice cream is delicious as well. Such a cute, unique place. My only thing is that every time I’ve went in, I’ve never been greeted by the woman owner, or even seen a friendly smile from her. Kind of makes me uncomfortable but the I love this place nonetheless.
We took our family and decided that we would preface the ice cream with some sandwiches,(variants on grilled cheese) I had grilled peanut butter which was great. My youngest daughter had peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. All was very good, we also had lime and orange-ades, also good. One problem- No room for ice cream. We’ll be back for the ice cream.
$$$. Nice sandwiches. Depending on the day, one never knows if it’ll be crowded with neo-hipsters (strange, strange) or kinda vacant. Not the friendliest place (but not the unfriendliest.) The bookshelf is cool. The soups aren’t all that spicy.
