This is REAL Chinese food, not the crappy take-out stuff you might be used to. The entrees are flavored with actual spices rather than fat and sugar. But if spicy food is not your thing, fear not. They still have some very flavorful food that won’t burn your lips and tongue. Ingredients like cilantro and green onions are common in the entrees here. You don’t often see Chinese food done this way, but it is delicious. I don’t live in Williamsburg and don’t often get the chance to come here, but if you live nearby I highly recommend you try Peter Chang sometime.

And so, after several minutes of contemplating where to go for lunch, my co-worker and I decided to try out a nearby Chinese restaurant another co-worker told us about. After looking at the menu and the online description of the food, we decided on Peter Chang. Now this is not just any old Chinese take-out restaurant but an exceptionally styled and unique menu, a variety of combinations, one you may have never seen before. This restaurant is located in a touristy location of Williamsburg, Virginia, between the Williamsburg Outlet Mall and the College of William & Mary. Even though I didnt stay (this was all takeout), feeling under the weather, I got several great-sounding soups to-go: Pork Ribs with Mushrooms Soup, Flounder Fish with Cabbage Soup, to be eaten later, and my co-worker ordered Pan Fried Noodles Combination with Mixed Veggies (shown below). I was so jealous of her mouth-watering meal. This is definitely a place I would return to.

Good value…good food.. Drove up from Va. Beach and was not disappointed; well worth the drive.

Not the General’s Chicken. Ordered General Tso’s Chicken. What they served was nothing more than fried chunks of dry chicken with sweet and sour sauce with red pepper flakes added. Needless to say, won’t go back there.

Fresh, Delicious Chinese – new fave. A group of 7 feasted here tonight and were not disappointed. Just as in many restaurants in China, a great number of tables here had the Lazy Susan in the center which is great for sharing dishes. The dishes did stick out a little bit so you had to be careful turning it but other than that, very handy. Initially disappointed that the restaurant didn’t have its alcohol license yet but after my first bite of food, I totally forgot about it. There were so many things we wanted to try. The one thing that stuck out to me with every bite was the freshness of the food. We started off with the Beijing Beef Scallion Pancake (absolutely wonderful), WuHan Noodles with Sesame Sauce (my youngest loved them – a bit too peanutty for me) and the Pan-fried dumplings (perfect sear to them). For myself and my daughters, we shared the General Tso’s Chicken (would have liked to be a little spicier but was good quality chicken and just the right amount of breading), Stir-fried flat rice noodles with beef (most lackluster thing we ate all night) and the Beef Lo Mein (perfect – not greasy like so many other places). Our friends enjoyed the Golden Mountain Chicken which they said they loved and the Orange chicken. While eating we saw a Scallion Bubble Pancake get served and we just had to try one of those so we added that on to our meal. It was my youngest’s favorite by far. Very good service and was quite crowded. I know this restaurant hasn’t done too much along the lines of promotion so word of mouth of how good it is has definitely gone around quickly. There were a ton of things on the menu that I wanted to try but will definitely be back soon for more. A big thumb’s up to Peter Changs in Virginia Beach for sure!

Simply some of the best Chinese you will ever eat. We drive from an hour away for it. This is the real deal. Bamboo fish is top notch. Can’t believe the rating is 82%. Maybe they need to stick with the standard strip mall Chinese with commissary style food. This is authentic and it rocks!
