Great atmosphere and great food! Thoroughly enjoyed Pot Roast. Tad bit on expensive side, but a good experience
Paying for Atmosphere – not food. This was a fun dining experience – enjoyed the atmosphere – the characters – muscians – interesting setting. However, the food was expensive and left a lot to be desired. I had a sampler appetizer and tomato soup. Soup was good, but lukewarm – appetizer tasted like frozen food warmed up – again cold. I had their sparkling apple cider – which was tasty. Don’t waste your money on the root beer – tasted like Dad’s – not a true homemade birch beer. Coffee was – you guessed it – cold. The dessert was the best part of the meal – apple pie with cinnamon ice cream – mmmm! My server was efficient, but they did appear to be understaffed and I heard a number of nearby tables complaining about the food temperature and/or taste. If you want to go here – go for the fun dining experience – not the food!
What a crazy experience. It was surreal. Sit for 20 minutes then waitress comes by for drinks. Brings our drink to table next to us. She does comprehend something is wrong and people at next table say it is theirs then woman realizes she has white wine (Chardonnay) and she has ordered red. Waitress attempts to fix – plobs our dinners and disappears for 30 minutes. Worst service ever. Food was good. Good place if you are only into food and enjoy massive stupidity
My husband and I went for christmas and payed 120 for a three course meal. It was not worth the 120 we payed. The food wasn’t even hot. It tasted like it was out of a box and microwaved. I had rockfish with shrimp. The shrimp tasted like rubber! My husbands meal looked awful and he said the turkey was dry. Honestly you’ll get a better meal at red robin and not to mention service any day. All they wanted to compensate us with was more terrible food and more dessert. I don’t recommend this tavern. Your just wasting your money.
Second Visit as Good as the First. We started with the Corn and Shrimp Chowder; light and flavorful. For the main course we had Ale-potted Beef – fork-tender Beef simmered in an Ale-laced Sauce that gives it a subtle sweetness and full, rich beef flavor. Baby carrots, pearl onions and celery cooked perfectly – al dente – with tender potatoes and mushrooms. And yes, we dined by candle light in a chilly room, serenaded by strolling minstrels (let’s see you get that Outback!) . . . it’s a Colonial Williamsburg tavern! Service was prompt and friendly and prices in-line with anywhere else in Williamsburg. Good size portions. Leftovers in the frig. If you need Heat/AC and lots of light . . . try BK or McD. Shield’s Tavern is 1780 Colonial Williamsburg, not 2011 ! ! !
Yummy food Ina basement. Some of the best fried oysters I’ve had in a long time. Well done pork shank. Disapointing kids menu for kids who live real food and not chic fingers. Best peppermint ice cream in memory. I like kings arms better but Shields is also good.
