Loved the white pizza – very buttery, very flavorful basil on top. We also had the traditional pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms – has a good roasted garlic flavor. My friend, a native New Yorker, said it meets the requirements for a good NY pizza, right here in Winchester.

Wish we would have found NIK, rather went into NIK yesterday. As they say, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Our hotel is right behind NIK but we didn’t go in until today after seeing lots of people in the neighborhood taking home boxes of their NY style pizza for the past couple of days. NIK is an unassuming place nestled next to a gas station and surrounded by several fast food chains. We walked in and saw they had Arrancini and I had to try it because it has been a long time since my last rice ball. I got the appetizer portion which came with 2 nice sized balls. They were soft on the inside but not mushy and crunchy goodness on the outside. Only thing I would have wanted to add was more marinara. I also had a slice w/pepperoni. Also, good but I want NY style to have that cheese that stretches out when you bite it, so here I wanted more cheese. My friend had Spaghetti Alfredo and meatballs. This was a giant plate of just right pasta and sauce. We were astonished there were meatballs left when the pasta was gone. While not NY or Chicago, Winchester, VA definitely has a Neighborhood Italian Kitchen I believe is worth returning to when I am back in this area.

It’s the real deal, foks!. My son and I had the pizza, thee Meat Special, which was excellent but the grease from the meats does a number on the crust at the center of the pie. Regradless, this is still good pizza in a town blessed with good pizza. My wife had the eggplant parmigian and raved over it. The owner came out of the kitchen and asked her how the dish was, even insisting on sending up an order of garlic bread…I mean this was sooo Italian! I suppose having someone order eggplant parmigian from the kitchen, the owner figured a paisan was out front. We split the calamari with the spicy marinara sauce. The octopii was breade and fried properly and the marinara made a nice counterpoint without overpowering the calamari’s delicate flavor.Dessert was chocolate covered cannoli….a little tube of Heaven with ream inside and chocalote glaze on top. Portions were generous. Being fairly familiar with both Italian and Italian-American culture, I think the ownership here would be mortified if you didn’t leave fat and happy…and we did.We will be back to this trattoria, and will definitely want to give the subs and calzones a try.

Being a transplant from New Jersey and being relatively spoiled being that Manhattan was my next door neighbor…I had finally found a delicious pizza pie that I could compare my homestate to…..the crust was thin, not super thin but crispy and the sauce was out of this world flavorful and tomatoey and had a good mozzarella cheese amount on it….wasn’t thrown from the door…..the sause tasted, LIKE JERSEY TOMATOES.!!!!…i…just tasted like a REAL pizza should….plus I had other food there was was also very good,, clams ……although the company I was with could’ve been a lot better….I guess it all turned out for the good……….Go here if you love great Italian food. Staff was very courteous, friendly and on the ball…..clean nice simple place.

Best pizza in Winchester. Im from New York, and this is the only pizza that can even be in the same sentence as NY pizza in Winchester.

NIK Neighborhood Italian Kitchen. The owner is gracious and very proud of his pizza. He should be. it was the best pizza I have had in twenty years. The cannoli was fresh and crisp. I think that King’s should be very afraid because this place blows them out of the water. This is our new favorite destination.
