Burned the Crabcakes. How do you run a upscale restaurant and serve burnt food. That is what I had served to me when I took my son and his new fianc out to celebrate their engagement. Since I don’t get to the East Coast that often, I decided to splurge on the Crab Cakes. I received not one but two burnt crab cakes that were complete scorched on the bottom and completely inedible. What is worse is I sent it back and got just as bad when the new plate arrived. No crust whatsoever and tasting like a warm crab salad.I tried my wife’s pork chop and while it was good it was nothing to rave about. Shame because the place has a good dcor and decent wait staff. But if the owner’s don’t care for the food, then avoid it. There has to be better restaurants in Winchester.
My husband and I were in town visiting our daughter and decided to stop for a late lunch on Loudon st’s walking district. When we came to the Village Square the daily special board sparked and interest so we went in. The quaint charm of the right side of the restaurant ( we went in the bar side) and coziness of the dining rooms drew us in even more. The lunch menu had just enough options without going overboard and our waiter was casual yet professional while highlighting the specials and throughout our dining experience. From our first savory bite to our last ( and what we couldn’t finish that went back with our daughter) was a delightful experience for all. Our shared caprese salad had ample amounts of fresh mozzarella and our apple and butternut squash soup was delightfully creamy without an over abundance of heavy cream. My husband said his fried oysters were plump and juicy while my daughter raved about her duck quesadillas and fresh poco de gallo salad. As for me, I relished in the light clean flavors of my Ahi tuna club sandwich on crisp ciabatta that was generously filled with black sesame encrusted rare Ahi, greens, bacon and fresh avacado As we left the Village Square, full bellies and nosh for later, we vowed to return next time were in town. Thank you Village Square for a wonderful meal!
We here in late June 2010. The service was excellent. The food was even better. We ate outside and had a cool breeze the whole time.
Food as Art. Village Square is a place where the chef prides him or herself on their food, so dress accordingly and you will likely be served accordingly. My wife and I have dined here several times, and have never been disappointed. We plan on returning many more times.
Very Dissatisfied. 5 star prices, 2 star food, 1 star service. After the appetizer it went downhill. I ordered the $29 filet. We waited at least 30 minutes. After tasting I found out why. The steak was not hot, the thinly sliced potatoes were like chips and I could not taste the blue cheese topping. I ordered dessert thinking they could at least get that right. The mostly crust pie had a small amount of pecan and caramel. What they called a serving of ice cream was 3 teaspoons (I kid you not). My wife’s dinners was similar. We paid over $75 and walked out feeling ripped off. Take a guess about my recommendation.
Super New Year’s Eve celebration. The dinner here was perfect. The restaurant is quiet and the setting was lovely with a fireplace and candlelight. The food was perfect. There was a large selection of items on the menu, something for every taste. Unlike the other restaurants taking reservations, it was not a prix fixe with a few choices. The wait staff was wonderful and just the right kind of attentive. It was well priced for the quality of the food.
I went with my wife and friends for a birthday dinner. We first had cocktails in the piano bar which is wonderful. We then moved to a beautiful private room, that’s where the good ended, our server was rude and inattentive. When we did finally get our food no one was happy I had the filet which I ordered medium rare when I cut into it was grey all the way through I’ve never sent anything back before but I sent my steak back. There also seemed to be zero management as well not one person asked us if we were enjoying our meal. Overall it was very disappointing which is a shame because it really is a beautiful restaurant.
