  Crab cake taste and texture detracts from a potentially great experience. Two elderly cooks are probably the most severe food critiques. We had the crab cakes. Disappointingly the conclusion by both was that while the atmosphere was nice – the crab cakes tasted as if they had been reheated. They were oily and had a bad (as opposed to good) leftover look and feel similar to day old, reheated food. It might have been that they were from a pre-made package. For the price, the expectation was for much better fare than was delivered with respect to the meal.

  My wife and I went here on our 1 year anniversary which was December of 2011. I am not a big reviewer and if I do write reviews they’re normally pretty quickly after the outing. The reason this one is coming late is because I tried to push it out of my mind. I made reservations because I’ve heard it can be really crowded and I wanted to be sure we had a table when we went. The Bistro came highly recommended from a few people, including my boss. I was super excited to treat my wife and I to a great meal! I enjoy fine food and The Bay at Tulalip is one of my favorite restaraunts because I love fine dining in small towns. I thought the Bistro would be right up my alley. My wife and I went in and were asked for our names. We had reservations and were seated within 5-10 minutes of arrival. The ambiance is very appealing. I was stoked! Then…..It was all down hill from here. I observed the staff visiting with the locals and the regulars. I thought it was cool that the staff knew everyone. The downside is that because there were so many regulars there my wife and I were ignored. After a while (10-15min) we were asked for a drink order and ordered. That was one of three trips made to our table. The next time the waitress visited our table was with our drinks and she took our order. I ordered the duck and my wife had some sort of steak. We waited and we waited and we waited. Finally our food came out. The duck was horrible and my wife’s steak was bland and overlooked. Not to worry though Bistro San Martin! My wife and I had nobody to complain to. We observed the wait staff provide excellent customer service to every other table in the restaraunt. After my wife and I choked down the little food we could we received our check. Not once during the meal were we asked if we’d like refills or how our meal was. I can deal with mediocre food as long as the service is outstanding and I can deal with mediocre service when the food is outstanding. I cannot deal with both and I didn’t think I was going to have to at the bistro. My wife and I were treated like outsiders. For the price of our meal I would think the service would’ve been better. Or, at least, if you’re going to provide crappy service provide it equally. Don’t give some excellent service while ignoring others. My wife and I will never go back here and I have told everyone I know that is considering going to the Bistro not to go there. I know for a fact that my boss, who originally recommended this place, has not gone back here nor will he ever go here again. He used to go to the Bistro at least once a month. If you want fine dining try any place but here.
