Their Passion Is Coffee. My wife and I were visiting Seattle this past weekend and had a wonderful experience at the Ballard Coffee Works. We choose it simply because it was a Starbucks alternative but seemingly stumbled upon the neighborhood jewel. They offer some more elaborate preparations like chemex and vacuum in addition to espresso and drip. I had never had a chemex coffee before so I ordered one and the results were superb. I guess my order expressed an interest in coffee beyond the typical latte and that seemed to excite the whole staff. The owner Sebastian stepped in to make the order and then even went on to make us 3 more cups so that we could try different beans and the vacuum style coffee…. at no charge! He was incredibly generous and more or less turned our afternoon in to an impromptu coffee tasting. From talking with him and the staff it is clear that coffee is their passion and the driving force behind their efforts. Its the kind of place and kind of people any neighborhood would be lucky to have. They have only been open for 3 weeks so I hope people find and support them.
