The history behind the name is cool enough, but their food is delicious! I had the fried chicken with truffle-honey. It was so juicy and the skin was crispy to perfection. We ordered some cornbread to share. It basically had a stick of melted honey butter on top, but that was fine with me, as it was some of the best corn bread I have tasted! Our server was great, and I love a restaurant where you can sit at the kitchen bar and watch the chefs prepare the meals. chowdownseattle.com

Lovely little gem. Despite the old-time name, Brunswick & Hunt is actually a very modern restaurant. Yes, it has the 100-year old gorgeous wood bar (hence, Brunswick) and the huge painting (you got it, the Hunt). But everything else says modern, including the shiny steel kitchen, which opens to the dining room and the sleek tables.Come here for meat. Vegetarians and fish-lovers have a few choices, but they don’t shine. The meat does. We had a pork shank that was fall-apart tender in a delicious sauce and rice. My husband had the duck breast, which was not confit, like every other restaurant, but actual slices of nice duck on a bed of black wild rice. Both entrees were very good to excellent, though I give the edge to the pork. We had a couple sides, which are just fine, nothing to write home about. As a few other diners remarked, service can be uneven. I thought our waiter was very good. But it took 2 cocktails worth to get the appetizers, then another 45 minutes before the entrees arrived. The kitchen is NOT fast, something they can improve on.Cocktails are good but small. Good selection of wines by the glass.

Good food, bad timing. My husband and I have been to Brunswick & Hunt twice now, a month apart. Both times, we’ve enjoyed the food immensely, but had issues with the timing of our meal. On our first visit, my husband’s entree came out, but not mine. 5 minutes later, we asked the waiter about it and he said he would check on it. 10 minutes after that, he came to apologize and took my husband’s entree to be brought back fresh with mine. Another 10 minutes and both entrees were brought to us. Once the entrees were at the table, they were outstanding. My husband had the stew and I had the chicken and we enjoyed them both immensely. We chalked that up to the restaurant still being fairly new (though it had been open for 2 months already). 6 weeks later, we take friends to enjoy a nice dinner out. The wait wasn’t too bad for appetizers and then salads, but then we waited another full hour for our entrees. Again, we enjoyed the food, but we won’t add this to our regular rotation because of the timing issues. Once, we can forgive, but twice starts to feel like a pattern.

Nice property, terrible service, terrible prices and well… terrible management. Our waiter was curt and in no way polite last night. Our starters took 45 minutes to arrive. They were good when they arrived to be fair but I could not believe the delay. We were having a good time in a nice place, so we put up with it. Then almost 70 minutes later, we still had no main courses. We chose to get our bill and leave as we had babysitters who needed to go home. The bill for drinks and starters was unbelievable and way above similar prices in Ballard. Then the manager came to apologize and did so very well right up to the point where he told us our mains were ready and he would gladly box them for us, and insisted on doing so. Then he also saw our bills and said that he would get us a gift voucher for a future date, which we thought was nice. 15 minutes later, still no takeaway food, and no gift voucher. Terrible service, terrible prices and terrible management. I very much doubt this restaurant will survive very long in this state.

Delicious. Our meals were truly delicious. Might be one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had. Mussels and broth are bread-dipping yummy, the beef tenderloin – melt in your mouth, and the duck pate was fabulous. The bar and huge painting on the wall have interesting histories. The owner is welcoming and delightful. Nice wines and good drinks. Our only complaints are that it was blazing hot inside the restaurant (we are having a heat wave after all) and our waiter was condescending and snotty (we just ignored him). Worth going!

Great food, even better service. I’m certain we were greeted by one of the owners. She was very friendly and suggested we have a drink so she could seat us in a booth if we wanted to wait just a few minutes. I had the tenderloin filet, med rare. It was flavorful but you expect any tenderloin cut to be. It was the mushroom ragout and the semi glac that really made the dish. He had the Hunter burger. Buffalo pattie and house pickled cucumbers and onions, and bleu cheese. The blue cheese was not the standard store bought crumbles. It was slices of creamy goodness (he really likes bleu cheese). We will definitely be back and I suggest you get in before everyone outaide the neighborhood realizes it’s here.
