Chips and Salsa!!!. Seriously, the chips and salsa is hands down the best dish (okay, technically an appetizer but…) these chips are fantastic! The salsa dip was delicious, one of the best I’ve had. I admit I scarfed these down and nearly lost my appetite for the main course. Will be back for more chips. I ordered the Papas y Pablano burrito which had potatoes in it – cut quite small and was pretty filling. I did enjoy the cheese. Just the right amount and I believe it was queso, so had a subtler and more authentic Mexican flavor (if you can call a burrito authentic). Overall, a tasty choice, and for $8.50 – not breaking the bank. For my drink I chose the Pineapple Serrano Margarita – this was spicy! Chile salt rim was interesting but not quite my thing. Would’ve liked this drink more if it was a bit sweeter. Pineapple flavor was subtler than expected. Also – where’s the alcohol?! Stiffer drinks please!07 Aug, 2014Chips and Salsa. Keep coming back. This is a truly vegan-friendly restaurant with an actual vegan section of the menu. The food is excellent as are the desserts that the bartender makes. The service is great. They have a very good and comprehensive drink menu.

Chips were warm, fresh and crispy. Enchiladas green sauce was deliciously limey. Hadn’t had a margarita in forever and appreciated the perfect El Cheapo Margarita’s balance of tequila, sour lime and delicate sweetness. Super nice service. Loved the neon signs and dancing skeleton. Bathroom was huge. Big enough for an orgy. Next time maybe.

Been here three times now. The food is pretty good but the service is dreadfully slow. Each time I was there involved excessive waiting.

Cute place. Good indoor outdoor vibe with TVs for sport watching. The food is decent. Carnitas tacos were pretty good but not great. The bar is an excellent place to pony up and have a solid margarita. Service was a little spotty but I’ll return for atmosphere.

There are better Mexican restaurants in Ballard. Trust me.. This was our first trip into El Borracho in Ballard and very likely, our last. My dining partner and I weren’t terribly impressed. The service was good and it is a restaurant that is interestingly decorated. We both ordered burritos. The small size of the burritos was disappointing especially for the hefty price 9 and 10 dollars for our respective meals. I had the Carne Guisada burrito ($10.00) and the meat was overcooked and tough to chew. I liked the Carnitas burrito my fellow diner ordered ($9.00).We ordered guacamole on one of the burritos and they forgot to put it in the burrito. It was nice that our server brought us the guacamole and comped us for the mistake. You have to pay for your chips and salsa ($2.00). The chips and salsa were surprisingly tasty but more than half the chips were broken into such small pieces they were useless to get any salsa on. They have all the usual cervesa selections from south of the border. The service was good but we were there just shortly after they opened on a Sunday, so it wasn’t busy yet.2 burritos, 2 beers and chips with salsa cost $31.00 without tip. El Borracho is not a cheap date.(Pictures are posted of this visit.)
