This place impressed the hell out of us for lunch, both are full meals, each got 2 beers on tap and all for under $25 with tax. Btw the sliders, burger and Mahi are insanely good. Beers very good as well.

Fantastic lunch. My family was exploring Ballard yesterday and discovered the Jolly Roger. The food was awesome! I had The Fidel sandwich with seasoned pork, ham, sweet pickles & onions. It was different and delicious. My husband loved his oyster sliders and fries. The kids (ages 6 and 8) thought the pirate decor was fun, and my son loved his mahi mahi sandwich. We definitely plan on going back!
A happy hour that is more than just bar food. Went to Happy Hour at the Jolly Roger Taproom, had the buffalo clam strips and the habanero garlic fries off the happy hour menu and the beer battered bacon and the lil’ jolly royals off the chef’s list, and a Bosun’s Black Porter. All are reasonably priced and good, but the beer battered bacon is the standout, it was fantastic! The fries did not live up to their description, they tasted pretty much like normal fries. The clam strips were definitely buffalo seasoned, but were more like morsels than strips. While I find their food to be hit or miss, it is all tasty and I always leave full and satisfied.
Since discovering this place years ago (in their old, tiny building) it has been at the top of my favorites list. Amazing food (nothing over $20, would go for $40 downtown), brilliant brews, and cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately they have changed their policy regarding children and now my pub haven is punctuated by cries, squeals and the clatter of toys. In a max occupancy of 110 room with all hard surfaces, 5 children is about 5 too many. It will definitely reduce the frequency of my visits and it makes me truly, very sad. Take the kids to Red Robin, leave me my J. Ro!
