Surprisingly found Rodeo donut when we went to Cupcake Royale.About 6 different flavors were offered with beautiful decorations. At first glance, the donuts looked very much like Portland’s Bluestar, particularly the carviar n creme.There were some interesting flavors such as elderberry and cassis, and one called mutton buster — peanut butter with corn flakes on top. I opted for the Rodeo carviar n crme, and the cherry rye.Following Bluestar’s trend, the donuts were brioche dough, but it was a lot denser than Bluestar’s.The cherry rye mostly came off as berry flavor and tartness; and the caviar n creme tasted like a knockoff of the Bluestar valrhona chocolate, with the crunchy cereal balls on top and chocolate icing. The filing was less custardy and a tad tart.Overall, they are ok, but not Bluestar wow, not enough to convert me to a donut monster. doofniks.com
