Solid neighborhood place.. Ballard is no longer Ballard. Nary an inebriated crab fisherman or sailor in site, and inside most places people are working on laptops. And the machine shop on Ballard Avenue just re-opened as a French restaurant (I hear the Coq Au Vin is nice).The Stepping Stone is new Ballard, but the vinyl album sides spun by the bartender are a nice nod to back in the day. The crowd is un-pretentious, and its a place any actual sailors or fisherman left in Ballard could, conceivably, be found. There is a good variety of beer on tap, and a few simple, high quality snacks are served (including fresh baguettes from the Tall Grass Bakery, next door). It’s a good size for talking and meeting people, and a nice alternative to your living room (or at least to my living room).Still, sort of miss the Valhalla, Trader Vans and the lounge at Blazes Broiler…
