We like Cantinetta for its convenient location, casual but sophisticated atmosphere and creative menu preparations. That said it was not at its best last night. The hostess appeared clueless, lacked warmth and welcoming attitude and wandered around looking like a deer in the headlights. As we left we observed her and her boyfriend having cigarettes outside the door the smoke from which we had detected during our meal. Cantinetta generally makes a good cocktail but my wife’s Cosmopolitan was so tart as to be almost undrinkable. The food and server were good.
Great food, especially the bolognese, which is usually on the menu. Friendly staff, warm comfortable environment. If you have time constraints just be aware there is often a wait list for table and the bar is strangely situated and small so you feel like you are mingling around other people’s tables as you wait.
Beyond Bland. My husband and I don’t go to out to eat often so we like a positive experience when we do. While the atmosphere at Cantinetta was very good, there was only one memorable dish from the entire dinner–the brussel sprouts salad. At the first taste of the lamb, I had to check that I wasn’t actually eating beef stew–appetizers, desserts completely unmemorable.
The Good, The Bad & The Eh. The GoodGood ingredients in the food and cocktails. Nice atmosphere, although a bit cramped. The BadSmall portions, over-priced and really unremarkable service. I usually expect service and prices to have a connection, but not so much here. Parking also blows here. The EhIf this were the only option in town I’d return with bells on, but it’s not. It’s just not good enough to carry the attitude and prices that go along with a mediocre package.
You can Cantinetta!. We dined here on June 30 and having been here twice before we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. It was not too busy when we arrived at 7PM on a Saturday (surprisingly) but it did fill up quickly. We like this place for the atmosphere and the food. Service is good and they seem to want to do everything possible to make your experience better. They will customize your entrees, substitute ingredients and such, so if you have food allergies or need to eat gluten free, vegan, etc., they will do their best to accommodate. Nice wine list. Would like to see more local beers on tap. It is a bit of a noisy spot with great dining buzz so it would not make the cut for a quiet, intimate, romantic kind of place. It’s on our list when we come back to Bellevue. We also like the Main Street location as it adds a nice local feel to the place as opposed to so many of the restaurants that are located in the mall or appended to Lincoln Square, etc. Oh and for all the reviewers that complain about small portions – it should be more about the quality than the quantity. If you want quantity, go to Maggiano’s. For quality, Cantinetta is the place.
Went Home Hungry. The food tasted pretty good, put the portion sizes were extremely small. I won’t be returning.
Delicious. Stopped in with a group of four on a weeknight and, like others have experienced, waited about 45 minutes for a table. We didn’t mind the wait though as we enjoyed cocktails at the bar.The menu is fairly small but well crafted. I started with the chilled asparagus soup with soft boiled egg and truffle oil which was delicate and nicely done. For my second course I chose the gnocchi with lamb sausage. The gnocchi were incredibly delicate and the sauce was great- a delicious dish overall. Lastly, I finished with an espresso and the orange chocolate cheesecake which was decadent.Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal. Negative reviewers seem to dwell on portion sizes. In my experience, the best meals are those that can leave you feeling satisfied without feeling stuffed. The richness and complexity of flavors in my dinner at Cantinetta did just that. If you would prefer to stuff your face with mediocre food, this isn’t your joint. If you are ok waiting for a thoughtfully prepared meal then give Cantinetta a shot, I will certainly be back
