If you are following my reviews closely, you may already know that when I travel I dont intend to try Indian food. However, I get recommended with Indian & Indian like food constantly by colleagues & friends. On my recent visit to Portland meeting long time friends, I was recommended to try the Indian like Roti Canai from this Malaysia place called Malay Satay Hut in Redmond. I love Malaysia (remains my favourite country, besides India) & Malaysian Food, always tried relocating there for making a living. While I am working & living out in downtown Seattle, did not pay much attention, to visit Redmond. That being said, I grabbed an opportunity to visit this place, when I had a couple of hour meeting at Bellevue & requested a colleague to drop me off Redmond. This place is decked up nicely, gives you a vibe of a typical Malaysian restoran. I quickly ordered their famous Ice Coffee & Roti Canai, as a heavy snack for the evening. What a wonderful wonderful iced coffee it was, perfect & strong, just the way I like it. Not too strong, neither too sweet, its a perfect blend. I was a little disappointed when the menu did not offer Ice Milo, my favourite. But that disappointment was washed away with this, pure, ice, coffee. The Roti was nice & flaky, perfect with the potato & peas curry that was served alongside. Between the curry & the Roti is could not pick a winner, but if I really have to be mean & nasty I had to pick the curry. Down south, in India there is a mean curry they make to serve alongside the Roti Parota, this curry came almost 97% close to that. Lucious & Lovely, throughly enjoyed it. The nice lady offer up some extra sauce for free (usually its a $1.5 extra), when I ran out of curry, soon.Did order a Nasi Goreng, Malaysian Fried Rice with Chicken & Shrimps, as an order out for dinner later today. Will update on how great it was
This is one of the very few places for Malaysian food. We used to come here a lot years ago. Prices have gone up quite a lot. Some of the dishes that we used to like are still there, and it was still good, such as Assam Laksa, Kang Kong Belacan and curry prawn noodle
Ordered some crispy rice noodles with shrimps and some cashew prawn appetiser. Wow. Two words. Simply amazing. The ice coffee was just as amazing. So were the people. Definitely going back!
The cuisine is quite authentic. This is also one of the very few Malaysian restaurants I know of that’s close to where I live. They have an entire page of vegetarian dishes; we also usually get the roti canai, nasi lemak, and satay. The roti canai has delicious potato curry, and each order is only $3.50. The satay is super crispy too, and just a little bit spicy.
This was probably my first attempt at some authentic Malaysian cuisine. Maybe, the first where I can judge what I ate unlike 10 years back. What’s the one thing you need to order? The mango chicken. Sounds different? Tastes different too. The sweetness of a fresh mango is beautifully contrasted by the tenderness of the saucy chicken. It’s just like a sweet and sour dish in the end, but the combination is a hit ! We ordered the Roti Canai. The bread and the curry ? Much like the North Indian cuisine’s but still very authentic. Goes to show how food’s always been connected. If you’re looking for fast service , friendly faces and a good Malaysian meal, this is the place to be!
One of the best Malaysian restaurants in Bellevue. The ambience is OK. Very few options for vegetarians. My favorites are Roti Canai & Iced Tea! Cost wise, it’s reasonable! basantsekhani.wordpress.com
