So many Chinese places in Bellevue! XO has been around for a while now, and I heard that it was just so so, hence No rush to try. As I ran out of new places to eat, I went for a late lunch with my friend, We had Singaporean noodle, BBQ pork and honey garlic chicken wings. Singaporean noodle was decent, and the flavor of the BBQ pork was good, except it was not tender at all. Chicken wings were fried crispy with a honey sauce, not too much garlic flavor. Overall, food was not bad, not wow. What they lack was service. Even though we went at off lunch time, with us being the only table for long while, no one paid much attention to us. It was hard to even get water. When I arrived at the restaurant, there was no one to greet me, and I waited for a long time to be seated. I understand that the employees might be busy preparing for dinner service or having lunch themselves, but if XO is going to open 11 to 9:30, then the expectation is that there will be someone there to greet and serve. Since there was no other customer in the restaurant, I asked to sit at a booth by the window which then my request was denied, and the waiter wanted us to sit at a smaller table. Due to my work schedule, I go to restaurants at odd hours a lot. Usually the waiters are done with the lunch rush and pretty easy going, and most don’t care and will do what makes customers happy. It was not the case here. I asked for some room temperature water, and the waiter came back with ice water with no ice. I asked again for water, just off the tap, and they said they didnt have that. I resorted to hot water. Suffice to say with so so food and lackluster service, I will not be going back. doofniks.com
We went to XO for lunch on the way to Seattle. This is one of the few places with baked rice in a hot pot. We ordered the chicken mushroom rice hotpot and a vegetable dish with Chinese sausage, or preserved meat. Both dishes were just right for us, not too salty nor oily. Didn’t get a chance to try the slow cooked chicken soup this time.
Loved every dish. Open, airy and clean dining hall looked like it was ready for a big party. Service was awsome. Had ducked out of a conference quality lunch at Meydenbauer Center to eat at XO instead. Should have brought more people with me.
