Years ago, we ate here more than I would like to admit, because we were living in a trailer while building our home, which is not too far away. In general, Applebees serves up food which is pretty dismal. One exception is their salads, which are consistently good, even by my wifes ridiculously high standards for this dish. Another exception is that they offer a variety of low calorie dishes. Were trying to shed a few pounds before the inevitable onslaught of food associated with the upcoming holiday season, so non-fast food places that offer diet dishes are of great interest to us. Unfortunately, I know of only two such places in all of Bellingham: Applebees and the Olive Garden. So, off we go to Applebees. The low cal menu is almost completely different than it was a couple of years ago, when we last ate here. My wife opted for the Chicken Tortilla Soup and a small Caesar Salad, for a total of 540 calories. I had the same soup and the Pepper-Crusted Sirloin with Whole Grains and Spinach, for a total of 590 calories. Weve had the Chicken Tortilla soup before, and its very good. My wifes salad was also very good, and my steak, while necessarily small, was tasty, remarkably tender and cooked properly to medium rare. In short, we did the undoable: We actually had a good meal at Applebees! I cant honestly say that we were stuffed when we walked out the door, but it was enough food to see us though the night. I still think Applebees overall rating should be well below average, but I can recommend the low calorie dishes we tried. Well be back to sample some others.

Total waste of money, plus food was awful!. Alright, so my boyfriend and I got a gift card to Applebees so we thought we’d try it out! I got a salad (first mistake), and he got a burger. Well, 5 minutes go by, and it’s no big deal, it’s Bellingham and we’re used to waiting for service. Well, at least 10 minutes later we get asked if we want anything to drink. Don’t even get me started on how long it took them to get the drinks to us. Also, let’s get real here. There were so many empty tables, and there were so many servers that they didn’t have an excuse to not seve us quickly. Anyways, so we order out food and it is total crap. I got about a cup of salad. Like, literally a cup of salad with about 4 pieces of chicken on it. My boyfriend gets his burger and fries and it is room temperature, it’s missing the dressing, and the bun is as hard as a rock. Needless to say, never again. The service was awful, and the manager looked like he was wearing street clothes. Button up your shirt, smile, and set a better example for your employees.

Stopped for drinks and dessert. My friend had a dessert. Ice cream was melted from sitting in expo so long. Brownie was hard. Aside from food, the restaraunt was not extremely busy. A table directly behind us was vacated shortly after our arrival (9pm) it was finally cleared before we left (1130pm). We saw the same throughout the tables. Dishes were.piled, but left to sit. We also decided to participate in trivia. The server running it mostly ignored us. We left before the 4 rounds were over. Completely dissatisfied with our experience in the Bellingham,Wa Applebees location! We work in the food and beverage industry and frequent the franchise at Burlington,Wa and Oak Harbor locations. I would/will never suggest the bellingham as an option if in that area!!!

Occasionally, when starving to death, I’ve eaten at Applebee’s places around the Western US. I admit that on a few occasions, I’ve had some decent meals at these restaurants so I expected my chances of doing okay at the Bellingham site were at least 50:50. Boy was I off in that calculation. I ordered the baby back ribs expecting them to be moist, tender, and tasty. But they were dry, tough, and miserable – even worse than prison food. I’d have done better to order a 10-cent steak.

Recently gone downhill. I’ve been to applebee’s a few times over the last 6 years…they went from great service and food to mediocre at best. Between burned burgers and iffy service on one trip, to this time we had a 5 minute wait for 2 measly vinegar packets, a server who would walk away after delivering our food so we had to wait 5 minutes just to ask for the vinegar in the first place, fish-stick tasting fish and chips that was supposed to be cod….on top of that when we first arrived the hostess asked whether we’d want the lounge or the dinning area, we said we’d like booths in the dinning area and for five minutes we ended up arguing with her (politely of course because she was being very pushy) about not wanting to go to the lounge. She pushed the lounge to the point where we ended up with a table that was half-booth and half chairs in the lounge, but if you’re going to ask where you want to be seated you should NEVER push the area that’s the opposite of the customer’s answer. I don’t know what she was thinking. Overall we have been very displeased and we will NOT be returning to this restaurant.

I like this place. I have always had positive experiences at this Applebees. The food is good. Sometimes I use the Carside pickup and I LOVE it. It is so convenient to call in your order and have it brought out to your car when it is done. If you want better than fast food, but not gourmet, this is the place to go.

I like their chicken tenders and double crunch shrimp baskets, and their spicy boneless chicken wings. Rick is a great server, other than that service is just okay. Nice family restaurant.
