Like people often do, we got a group of people together here to watch a game on TV. It wouldn’t have been our first choice, but all the sports bars we could locate on line were either too far or not open that early in the day. This was a choice we were familiar with, and it was open, and not too far.The place was, as expected, clean and well-maintained and bright. There were lots of TV screens around, so we thought it’d be great. The menu is reasonably extensive, the food was reliable, and the prices are what we are used to all over the country. Someone ordered spinach-artichoke dip with tostadas for the table. The dip had a very hard crust on the top of its undersized ramekin, which proved to make difficulties until finally someone just pulled it off with a spoon. It was burned. My entre was the Classic Hamburger. When I ordered it, the waitress was careful to specify that there would be some pink in the patty unless I wanted it otherwise; I said that was fine. The cook, though, wasn’t on the same page. What I got was closer to an Echo Dot than a medium-rare hamburger. But otherwise, it was well prepared, with nice, crisp, fresh veggies and a heapin’ helpin’ of plain-ol’ french fries (which were properly prepared). The service was so-so. I had the impression that someone hadn’t shown up for their shift, but no explanation was offered so I will assume that it was just mediocre service: long gaps when no one came by to check on us; confusion over the bill; a general shortfall in the level of solicitude we expect at restaurants of this sort. Oh, and there was no place in the restaurant, even with all those TV screens, where all of us could see a screen unencumbered by lamps, passersby, or pillars. That was a surprise, and a disappointment.THE CURMUDGEONS RATINGS (explained, sort of, on the Curmudgeon-About-Town blog):FOOD: 2 1/2 chili peppers (out of 5)SERVICE: 2 chili peppersAMBIENCE: 3 chili peppersVALUE: 2 1/2 chili peppers

Been here a few times, and find a few things to be very consistent:The Hostess is attentive, and seating is generally pretty quick. We’ve only had to wait 5 or 10 minutes during dinner time. The food is good, prepared well, never had to send anything back. The wait staff… That’s a bit different. Drinks get forgotten (doesn’t matter if it’s water or beer), meals are served out of sequence, and typically no check on the progress of the meal. What stands out the most: The server seems to think it’s all the kitchens fault. During our last visit my mood changed when my partner got served dinner while i waited 5 more minutes for mine. Only when my attitude changed and I pointed out the poor staging did the server step it up a notch, albeit too late. The manager came to apologize, but for the kitchen, whose not at fault for SERVING out of order. The restaurant itself is always clean, washrooms included. The ambiance is good, a touch dark but visible nonetheless. Going to try another location next time.
