The food was decent, (compared to others in Bellingham, it was probably a lot better than others) the price is a little expensive and the service was good. I was hungry and so were my parents. Since my parents usually only eat Asian food, I decided to try something else as I always eat the same foods while cross-boarder shopping. After eating, I rate this 3.0. I could get the same quality of food at a much cheaper rate in Richmond/Vancouver.
Always friendly staff and good food. Great place for a quick bite or intimate date. The food is always fresh and the staff is knowledgeable about there products.
On Rice might be the fanciest Thai restaurant in Bellingham, but to my taste Asian 1 is considerably better. It doesn’t look that promising when you walk in– sort of half bar and half restaurant. But the food is excellent. I like the fact that they offer some low calorie dishes, with the calories actually on the menu. That will be useful after the holidays. Weve been here quite a few times, usually ordering the Panang Curry, which is excellent. Weve also tried the Mongolian Beef and the Cashew Nuts Delight with Tofu and Vegetables. They were both very good, except we thought the Mongolian Beef could have been spicier. Another really good dish is the Swimming Rama with Tofu, which features very fresh spinach and a ton of tofu with an excellent peanut sauce. Weve twice had the chicken and crab fried rice which had very tender chicken but the last time we had it the crab tasted like it was canned. Overall, we are quite happy with this restaurant and rate Asian 1 as one of the best Asian restaurants in Bellingham. The Soy House serves up great Vietnamese inspired food, Dragon River serves up very good and authentic Chinese food, Busara is great for Thai food, and there are a number of newer Thai places in town that are competing for the top spot.A word on spiciness. When we mentioned to our waitress that our Mongolian Beef, ordered 4/4 on the spice-o-meter, was not all that hot, she explained whats going on. 4/4 really means 4/10, but they wont tell you that unless you specifically ask (were supposed to be mind readers, I guess). If you order any level greater than 4, they start adding Thai peppers. Also, you can ask for a spice rack to season it yourself. This changes everything for us. They gave us a sample of the Thai peppers which we added to the leftover fried rice and had for breakfast the next day. Wow, it was a lot hotter, and much better to our taste.
My review is based on only the things I’ve tasted, they have such an extensive menu it would be unfair if I tried to say that my review represents all that they have to offer. I am deeply in love with their Tom Kha Gai, which is a Thai coconut soup. They do it well here and it makes me feel all warm inside every time I have it. They give you an opportunity to chose how spicy you would like it made. They have good sushi as well. The interior is nice, considering it’s pretty much in a strip mall in the parking lot of Costco. The servers are usually very nice and attentive.
Sometimes you’re feeling like you must have Asian food. And THIS is the place, from Pad Thai to some awesome Spider Rolls, it’s all delicious. I usually come here for sushi (best sushi in town) and am glad they use fresh wasabi and real crab meat. It really does take it on another level! Their crispy honey chicken with the nuts is pretty tasty too. Been to the Burlington location as well, and the food was just as great. Consistency is key.
Enjoyed my meal but felt a little pricey. I tried Asian 1 for the first time this week. I ordered a noodle, veggie/chicken dish (# 29). While waiting for the to-go order, a man was delivering boxes of food/items from a truck through the front door, going in & out. I thought that was a little odd as customers were trying to dodge him & his dolly. You would think he’d use a back door. The guy at the front counter was friendly & placed my order. Once I opened the box at home, the food looked fresh. There was no rice to go along with the entree, and the portion could have been a little more generous for the price (over $11). I loved the taste of the food and the chicken was so tender. I would order it again.
Very disappointing. I ordered three entrees that should not have been served with rice… No rice. The the entrees were VERY small. The food was good but overpriced. Maybe it is better if It’s not a take out order.
