Went to Avenue for breakfast this morning. Delicious cinnamon rolls. My wife had eggs Benedict (she ALWAYS gets eggs Benedict). I had French toast. Not fully restaurant-y, as you order from the counter and bus your own table, but we’ve never minded that, though prices could be a little cheaper, considering.
Wrong bread bags. I have never been to the cafe, but I have purchased their Avenue Breads at the grocery store. Loaves in wrong bags…sourdough in rustic whole what, french bread in peasant bread. Be careful what you buy!
Everything is home made and tastes good. Great service as well. Not cheap but you are paying for quality.
Guilt-Free Comfort Food. I have been to Avenue several times since I moved to Bellingham, and each time was a great experience. Sandwiches aren’t exactly health food, but they load them up with so many fresh veggies that you can connivence yourself it’s worth it. The bread of course is absolutely delicious and the staff is always super kind and relaxed, even if the place is packed. Can’t wait till I get to come again!
Very friendly staff. As others have mentioned, this caf can get very busy at times, but no matter how busy it is, it seems like the people who work here are always friendly and pleasant. I love the sandwiches and stop in for one at least once a week, even at peak/busy times, because to be honest, there is just something really nice about the person taking your order giving you a smile and remembering your name. You can tell that they appreciate the community and patrons.
Great sandwiches. Slow service.. Great sandwiches, bread and fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, slow service with a side of attitude seems pretty normal here. Also, the prices can really get outta control quick if you start adding small things/sides to your order. My wife’s ‘small’ Cesar salad with a small piece of chicken came to about $13. Ridiculous! the Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich is amazing in my opinion.
I Don’t get it. Went to Ave Bread on James for breakfast this am. My wife ordered the spinach omelet, I ordered the Bellingham omelet. The place was packed (usually a very good sign). Here’s how it went:1. Found a table, but previous occupants left dirty dishes. This means the table was not wiped down (yuk)2. Waited 45 minutes for breakfast (I said it was busy).3. My wife payed for hollandaise sauce (it was cold).4. She did not like her omelet & couldn’t eat it > I thought mine was good and traded her (now I know what she meant). The hash browns were terrific!5. You pay $30 for 2 omelets, 2 coffees & 1 hollandaise sauce & YOU have to clean up after yourself. The reason (most) people go out to eat is for the good food, good atmosphere and great service. The folks at Ave Bread were very nice, but there is no service. I just don’t get why sooooo many people like this place. I could have gone to Skylarks and got all the above amenities for less $.
