Food was good, ordered a jumbo margarita as per a displayed sign saying all jumbo drinks are regular price. service seemed fine until the check came. I was charged for the jumbo margarita at jumbo price. Then im told my classic jumbo margarita would be at full price because they don’t even serve regular size margaritas. Left feeling like a victim of bait and switch. They refused to back down. Good way to lose a weekly customer over $4
HAS POTENTIAL. El Gitano provides a glimmer of hope to thosewho’ve eaten at any average Mexican restaurant in California and consequently realize that Bellingham iscursed insofar as Mexican food goes. On the positive side, I was promptly seatedat a clean table andserved the customary chips & salsa by friendly staff at El Gitano. My lunch order was taken and deliveredwithout delay, and was considerably better than the food servedat some other Mexican outlets in town, meaning it was hot, flavorful, and not frightening to look at. My chili verde was a bit watery, but still superior to the same dish offered elsewhere in Bellingham. The price was sensible.Based on that experience, I rate this as one of the better Mexican establishments in Bellingham.UPDATE: Dinner 1/15/2018 was pretty good. Burrito combo + taco & chile relleno.
Food is sub par. Ordered fajitas steak and chicken chicken was bland steak was ok my son had pollo Ranchero the chicken was unseasoned and rubbery.asked for extra tortillas waited several minutes before waitress came back food was then luke warm had three different waitresses.very unorganized.will not be comming back
Rick. Had lunch there yesterday, Wednesday, August 6. Food was absolutely delicious for both of us. Best Mexican food I have had since Denver and Arizona. Pleasant wait staff and pleasing atmosphere. Was not expecting the excellent quality of the food. Burned too many times in the North. Will definitely go back. Sauces were very delicious and good quantity.
The worst food I have had in, well forever. Tasteless slop. Straight from the microwave to the table. Never again.
Had the 7 Seas meal. Rancid. Sick all night. Manager was argumentative when notified. Would not go there again on a bet!
I *used* to go to this restaurant on a semi regular basis. However, this will be the last time. To start off with, we were seated in an out of the way area which was no big surprise since we were there with our kids. However, as the minutes wore on, they crammed more and more people into the area, even adding FOLDING CHAIRS to the table next to us. Soon, people were practically on top of us. This would not have completely ruined my dinner (despite the fact that the people stunk like cigarette smoke and exhaust)but when they brought the food it did. The pot holder on the end of my fajita pan wafted a nauseating stench reminiscent of grease and fabric softener. The guacamole was bad, as in it probably had high levels of pathogenic bacteria colonizing it. There was hardly any meat in my relatively expensive steak fajitas but it was so disgusting I couldn’t eat it anyways. I don’t have high expectations of Mexican food restaurants in Bellingham, I don’t lose my appetite easily, and generally will eat just about anything. And like I said, I used to go there on a pretty regular basis but I will never go back again.
