New favorite sushi place. Lots of interesting veggie options. Lots of interesting spicy options. Unique takes on classic rolls. Miso soup was very flavorful. Everything was delicious!
Average chicken yakisoba, average beef teriyaki, average California rolls. All average! But it is a better than average distance from our house. We got take out, but I don’t see much draw here, other than location.
Seattle Quality Sushi in little town of Bellingham. This is some of the best sushi and Japanese food you can find in Bellingham, Next to Blue Fin.
Dissapointed. Overall the fish were cut large but very thin in order to mask the chewiness of low quality, aging meat. Especially after so many positive reviews and their claims of authentic and quality sushi I was really disappointed with Little Tokyo. It should have been a sign that very few comment on the quality of the fish and that everyone eating when we visited was not ordering raw fish.Of the fish I tried we’ll start with the worst and work our way up to the best in the hopes of ending this review on a positive note. The hamachi I ordered was nearly dark brown, a far cry from the cedar to red gradient one hopes for on even relatively fresh yellowtail. In addition the fish arrived without a trace of the silver skin lining implying a cheap non-import, pre-cut or aging fish or an inexperienced chef.Maguro here was unfortunately not a lot better than the hamachi. What seemed to be better cuts from better fish, if not the cheaper, tougher, middle-rear section of the tuna (which you can identify by the firmness and deep (but not neon) red color) ended up being just as old as the hamachi judging by the markedly paler than average color and taste.I would not have ordered the over-twice-as-expensive Chu-Toro had I tried their offering of tuna first but it was already on it’s way out so I decided to give it a try. When you order chu-toro you’re expecting a layer of fat marbled, pinkish meat that is softer and (obviously) fattier than the average maguro. Except for the very small amount of fat, it was difficult to tell the difference in sight, texture, or taste between the 4 dollar maguro and the 9 dollar chu-toro, this most often happens when one buys chu-toro from the cheapest seller and keeps it for too long. The most notable difference was the size of the chu-toro cuts being about 3/4 the size of the others. Finally the best cut was the salmon. Like the others it was cut very thin to mask the aged rubbery texture but didn’t taste poor because of it. The bands of fatty tissue marked along the meat that imply quality fish were almost non-existent but to be fair, it’s very difficult to screw up sake. If I ended up here again for some reason I would order exclusively salmon.Ultimately I would rate Little Tokyo very poorly and avoid going back until I hear that they are no longer misrepresenting their food and selling overpriced sushi. There are other sushi places I don’t like in Bellingham but each sells it’s fish at a fair price to those who like the style. At Little Tokyo cheap, poorly prepared fish is sold as if it is the authentic, artisanally prepared fish available for the same price elsewhere even in Bellingham.
I really like this restaurant. I think it’s one of the best sushi places in bham. Get a ruby roll!
This is a friendly relaxed restaurant with good food and reliable service. A great place to go with friends or the kids. The sushi is good, not great, and the dinners are tasty and satisfying. Little Tokyo is our kids favorite resaurant. And you c an walk there on the interurban trail.
