GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE in a very nice building. I enjoyed thoroughly the eggs benedict with hash browns. Brough my hot dog some water on the porch without me even asking, These guys are so attentive and friendly in the front of the store that I feel confident that the handling/purchasing and cooking of the food in the back is prepared with the customers’ needs alway on top priority.
Having been a longtime fan of Maple Counter Cafe in Walla Walla, I waspumped when I heard that Bellingham would be getting its own version of this amazing restaurant!!! The portions are big, good for sharing. My favorite (but you need to bring a few people with you to help you eat it) is the apple pancake. It’s HUGE and delicious! We went in about two weeks after they opened and my food was awesome, my husband got an omelette and it was pretty bland… But we’ve been back since and everything else we have tried has been delicious. The buckwheat pancakes and the quiche have been some of my faves. My husband loved the pecan pancakes. The Birch Door also has the FRIENDLIEST staff! Everyone stops by our table to say hello to our 10 month old daughter and sometimes even bring her treats like cantaloupe an blueberries. This is fast becoming our go-to breakfast place when we have family and friends in town.
The Birch Door Caf serves breakfast and lunch. We gave it a try for breakfast and got a couple of great meals on our first visit. My wife had the buckwheat pancakes. She loves buckwheat pancakes and not many places in Bellingham serve them. These were exceptionally good. I had the corned beef hash with two eggs and a glass of orange juice and coffee. The hash may have been the best Ive ever had in a restaurant and the orange juice (fresh squeezed) was excellent. We will definitely be back, as there are many interesting offerings on the menu. There is some bad news. This place is expensive. My corned beef hash cost $13.75. Want some toast with that? Its yours for a mere THREE DOLLARS! My wifes pancakes, with nothing on the side, were $11.75. Like a side of bacon with them? Get ready to shell out $6.35! The prices are consistently high, especially for the side dishes For instance, one egg will set you back $3.05. Nevertheless, our first visit suggests that this could be one of the best breakfast spots in town.
