The Fork is well-known and highly regarded restaurant on the eastern edge of Bellingham. The atmosphere is intimate and friendly, though it can be excessively noisyhere when the place gets crowded as it often does. Due to its popularity, reservations are highly recommended. Tonight I chose the North Pacific wild halibut complimented with hand-made angel hair, wild spring vegetables, morel mushrooms, tomato-fennel broth, and a bit of pecorino. The special this evening was a troll-caught salmon featuring Yukon Gold potato rounds, a well-balanced mixture of corn and spring vegetables, a fennel aioli sauce, and pea puree. The Duckhorn merlot opened up very nicely (I have never once had a bottle of this wine that was not good). Despite our impression that both the halibut and salmon were slightly undercooked tonight, we judged both meals to be very good. Desert was a sinfully decadent chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and a strawberry with sweet cream. On the whole, as expected, another memorable diningexperience. The total bill with tip came to just over $180. I give high marks for the quality of the food and the attentive staff service. This is certainly one of the best restaurants in the area of Bellingham. UPDATE: March 27, 2019 – Uh Oh. There has been a change in ownership since our last evening at this establishment. Our experience at The Fork tonight was cause for concern. The meals were not nearly as well-preparedas thosewe previously enjoyed at this location. It may be the case that the new owners & operators are working outkinks (like how much added salt might be too much for people with functioning taste buds, or how important appearance is to wetting the consumer’s appetite) as theyadjust to running the new business, but if they don’t straighten out and find their bearing soon, the Fork’s previously excellent reputation will tarnish and expire. We came with high expectations based on prior experiences, and left with the sense that our meal tonight was not worth nearly what we paid, and that we might consequently never return. Our next visit will be decisive. Themomentum created bythe previous owners will not last forever. I reluctantly adjust my rating downward one point from 4 to 3.
One of the best restaurants in the Bellingham area. Their menu has some of the most interesting food you’ll find in the Bellingham area. We were there tonight and had the specials – a hangar steak salad and salmon with gnocchi. Both were fabulous. The service was outstanding as well. I can’t think of a place I’d rather eat in Whatcom County (besides the Willows, of course).
