I’ve eaten the traditional gyro heretwice. My order took forever the first time, I think because they were very busy(I was there at the height of the lunch hour rush) and seemed to be breaking ina new cook. There was no one else in theplace today and my order came out promptly. As before, the traditional gyro was a little heavy on the tzatziki sauce, light on tomatoes and onions, and a little small on portion size for $6.50, and a little hard on the eyes, but otherwise tasty. The Grill seems to be a decent place for lunch if you’re looking for averagefare and happen to bein or near Sunset Square.

The Grill is a new semi-fast food place in Sunset Square. It serves up burgers, hot dogs, Italian sandwiches, paninis, gyros and salads. We stopped by recently to get some take out. My wife had the Traditional Gryo and I opted for the Cuban Panini. We also each had a side of fries and split an order of pita bread and hummus. I have not been able to find a gyro in the Pacific Northwest done in the traditional fashion- a meatloaf-like mixture of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie and sliced off when the sandwich is made. Every one Ive seen up here is made with marinated pieces of meat, but this one looked like the real thing. The meat was very tender and tasty and the gryo was excellent, although the cook could use a course in art composition or food presentation (check out the picture, its not a thing of beauty). My Cuban Panini (pulled pork, ham, pickles, provolone cheese and mustard) was also very good. The sides were another story. The fries were almost certainly frozen and ranked below average. The pita bread was dry and definitely below par. The hummus was among the worst weve ever tasted. We couldnt finish it, and I absolutely love humus. Most of their other side dishes sound pretty unappealing (fried mac and cheese balls, anyone?). Ill stick with a small salad. Based on this one visit, the sandwiches get a 4.0 and the sides a 2.0. I guess Ill give it a 3. However, its definitely worth checking out.
